ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Police have charged an Asheville woman with trying to claim $1 million with an altered lottery ticket.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that 39-year-old Michelle Gibson Ryans is charged with obtaining property by false pretense. She was arrested Tuesday night.

Arrest warrants said she used an altered Cash Spectacular lottery ticket to claim more than $1 million from the North Carolina Lottery on April 4.

Ryans is being held on a $5,000 bond at the Buncombe County jail. She was scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday. It wasn't immediately clear whether Ryans had an attorney.

My question is...how was she able to cash it in the first place? What? Unless, I am reading it wrong, which I think I might be.

She wasn't able to cash it. When she went to turn in the ticket and claim the prize, she got busted. Quite a rap-sheet, too :-(
