More Government Waste

Published:

Based on my social security number, I was supposed to receive my stimulus check last week.  Instead I got a letter from the IRS telling me that I am entitled to an economic stimulus check and the amount.  "You can expect your payment by..  Well, I am still waiting.  The notice says to contact the IRS if you don't get your check within 6 weeks of the notice. Sounds like one of those rebate deals when you buy a new printer!

Even if this letter was computer generated, someone had to send it to me and I assume millions were mailed.  Isn't this a waste of paper, manpower and postage?  I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't just let qualified recipients deduct the amount from their tax returns in the first place.

Please, no comments like "you should have used Direct Deposit."  I owed a small amount in April and mailed the IRS a check.   Anyway, that's not my point.  I don't expect to receive much, but it's the whole process that is irritating me since I'm pretty good with budgeting and, even using my primitive balancing methods, sending this notice is a total waste of my tax dollars.   But what do I know?  I'm only a Plebeian waiting for my crust of bread from the Patrician Council.

Sorry if someone already posted this (I don't know) over the past few months, but I don't always get a chance to read every blog! I really didn't know they were sending out these CP 1378 forms.

I received my notice that I would get my check on June 27th. I haven't received no check yet. I believe the IRS mail out stimulus checks on friday, and hopefully my check will come on Monday! Yes I am a Plebeian in the highest order...just patiently waiting for some governmental crumbs which are very much needed!!!

I agree, the stimulus check mail-outs didn't go smoothly at all. By rights, I should have received my check in the very first mail-outs according to my social security number. But, I'm still waiting!!!

Got mine Friday the 27th. It came when I expected. Ahhhhh, marital bliss. I planned to save it to pay property taxes in January. Mama says we need to buy the daughter going to college a laptop computer.

After almost 33 years of marriage we can read each other's thoughts!!!!!!

You are soooooo right! Waste is the government middle name. Hope you get yours soon. It's so sad they tax us so much so they can waste it on wars.

I just read that the IRS spent $42 million sending out announcements to 130 million households just to tell people about the stimulus checks. That was the "Dear Taxpayer" letter that went out earlier this year and now there's this form. I don't remember getting the first letter, but I don't care. It's all unnecessary junk mail. Just send me the lousy check!

Gentlespirit, mine is only a week late, so don't be concerned. We'll both get them. I was only hoping to use it to pay part of my July rent so I hope I get it by Tuesday. It hasn't stimulated me so maybe I'll use it buy a stimulant. LOL ( Ducolax? :-)

Reading this reminded me of a customer I had a week or so ago. She was an elderly lady, but quite spunky. She was looking for a recliner, but she said "I'm not buying today. I'm waiting for my stimulus check. It's past due, I haven't been stimulated yet!" Pretty funny.
