Barack Obama's Lament

In William Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 2, Scene I -- his soliloquy reads: "...uneasy lies the head that wears the crown..." Although George Bush, a lame duck president, will be passing his crown to Obama, who I hope will never echo Shakespeare's chilling words during his presidency or after his presidency.

I don't think any president wears a crown, or even has one to pass along. He works for *us*, not the other way around.

In Shakespeare's time they *did* have kings and queens -- rulers, not public servants. Hence, a king or queen would be uneasy because of the fear of losing that absoute power.

Unlike a king, I think George Bush is actually relieved to pass along the role of ultimate public servant to a successor, as it is a burden to bear -- at least for those (like him) who see themselves as public servants and not rulers.

History will be a kind judge to George Bush, long after the unfair pounding he has endured by the mainstream news media has faded, and after the airy, loud Hollywood types become old and forgotten.

George Bush's sin was that dared to have different opinions than the CEOs of media companies and foreign nationalists.   Think about it.

One thing he never did was to sell this country out, or sell it short. He protected us and made the decisions that nobody wants to make. God bless him.
