Prayer

Published:

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open
the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask
your forgiveness and to seek your direction and
guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those
who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we
have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed
our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it
the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it
welfare..

We have killed our unborn and called it
choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it
justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our
children and called it building self esteem..

We have abused power and called it
politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions
and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and
pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values
of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts
today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Amen!

"We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery."

Hmm...does he intend on increasing the winnings, so that we are not exploited so much?
:)

The fading of The Word is so glaringly evident...

I agree with everything he said one some level. But not everyone who gets government assistance is lazy. We need compassion. Not everyone who plays the lottery is poor or exploited. Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion and many who fight to get the government out of our bodies would never even have one. "Sin" is a religious interpretation & judgment. One man's sin might be another man's pleasure. Some people believe birth control is a sin. Some people believe it's okay to beat your kids. Stoning & slavery is in the Bible. Adultery used to be punishable by death. Probably many of the people who threw stones were sleeping with their neighbors. Getting caught seems to be the biggest sin, next to hypocrisy. To me, there is more sin in looking outward and judging than looking inward and cleansing yourself.

"on some level" not "one some level." (first sentence)

Great post Em, read it yesterday. Think the media has been delivering a message dictated by the "powers that be" to separate us from our connection to Source (as defined by each person), to separate us from one another and to ultimately separate us from our humanity for the purpose of weakening us as a nation. For now they seem to have succeeded. Hope that changes soon.
