You're Being Lied To About Pirates

Published:

I thought the Somalian pirates were just totally evil and any small boats approaching a vessel should just be blown out of the water! Then I came across this article (click link above). After a short history lesson on pirates this article explains the plight of Somalians and the point of view of the pirates.  Very interesting indeed.

I am so happy that Captain is safe. But I am sad for the killed pirates as well as all the Somalians. There must be a better way. . .

Not buying the article totally. Given the amount of money they're extorted from shipping companies, insurance companies they could have productively used it to better the country if their motives were other than greed. Too much money to be made ..... they've now become part of Al Qaida's "stable."

As they are not all working together, there are many competing agendas. The first casualty of this series of events has been the truth. People have forgotten all about our meddling in Mogadishu (early 1990's).

TigerAngel, guess that's why I have even less sympathy for anyone working for them. Goes against my very grain for someone(s) to take by force ... machine guns .... something that doesn't belong to them, kill, maim while stealing no matter who they are. Costs in lives, hard costs of goods passed on to consumers.

Pirates poised to kill the captain ..... real heroes are Navy Seals who took out each of three pirates with only 3 well placed shots.

Lest us not forget there are over 250 other world workers right now along with a dozen or so ships being held captive by these ghatted up terrorists. What really is disgusting is the media hype about this rescue, they got lucky, it could have very well all gone wrong, it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

No matter how bad things might be within the country, there is no justifiable reason for piracy or the taking of hostages.
If they really wanted to "make a living" then unload the ship, release the crew, and sell to the world the confiscated cargo or keep the cargo and use it themselves. Hopefully one ship will have guns, tanks, ammo, food, and medical supplies. Then those who want freedom can fight for it. I suspect freedom is the last thing they want. Money is their primary and only objective.
