An opinion from a former model

All politics aside, Miss North Carolina is much prettier than Miss California IMHO.  Miss North Carolina won both the swimsuit and the evening gown competitions and, after all, this is a beauty pageant!   Maybe Miss California came in second because she wasn't the best choice.  However, she certainly is getting a lot of attention!  She said on a TV interview "I feel like I won. I feel like I'm the real winner.  I really do."  That's assuming an awful lot, isn't it?

Frankly, I think Perez Hilton, the judge who asked the controversial question, is an obnoxious little queen and I'm also not a proponent of gay marriage.  However, Carrie Prejean assumes she would have won the competition had she given a different answer.  Personally, I think she sounded like a bimbo and didn't answer the question which was about states legalizing same-sex marriage.  "Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage...."   Really?  We do?  Even the question said "Vermont recently became the 4th state..."  so she apparently didn't listen very carefully to it.   I thought we had 50 states, so that means we live in a land where you cannot choose same sex marriage.  So, to me, she was demonstrating her ignorance, especially since this has been such a hot issue in her own state.

"God was testing my faith."   As long as she's going to bring up God & Christianity, maybe she should also read the passages in the Bible about humility.  She lost.  Case closed.

It's ironic that I'm writing about a beauty pageant, since I view them as silly sideshows.  That would have made a great question.  "Do you feel that beauty contests objectify women and teach young girls that appearance is more important than intellect?"  LOL   Anyone who disagrees, tell me the last time someone accepted a Nobel or Pulitzer wearing a bikini.

I want to apologize if I offended anyone by calling Perez Hilton an obnoxious little queen. Maybe it wasn't politically correct but, from what I've heard, many gay people feel the same way. :-)

Why is he a judge for something like this anyway???

Ya got me, Toad.   The big question is..why did I even tart this discussion? lol   Maybe I'm so sick of talking about war, torture, and the economy that this seemed like a light topic to me.

However, I'll admit that I never heard of this guy before a few days ago.   I rarely read celebrity gossip. I had a friend who got offended once because she'd go on and on about how Bruce & Demi broke up and Britney Spears likes Taco Bell....blah, blah. So I asked her "Why are you telling me this? Does this have anything to do with world peace, the economy, what's on sale at Publix, how I'm going to pay my rent next month?" :-)   Gosh I sound like such a *B*   But who cares if Dolly really had implants or whom Cher is dating now?   I don't even care what kind of dog the president got, although that's "Real News" I guess. LOL

How dare he ask a contestant that question it didn't belong in a pageant he used that opportunity to tout his belief that gay marriage should be OK in every state. There was only one answer that would be acceptable to him. She gave her opinion and lost the competition as a result. I think she would have been the winner if any other question had been put to her.

This jerk should never be allowed to judge another pageant. I don't know why he was even allowed to ask a contestant such a question. In future pageants i hope the pageant committee screens the judges and their questions before hand.

Well, four4me, maybe you're right, because I usually don't pay much attention to these contests. Maybe this was all planned! lol   After all, isn't Donald Trump behind this whole production, and we all know he loves this kind of publicity. Seriously, I don't care what Miss CA thinks, and that whining judge had no right to bash her in his column or punish her for her personal or religious views. (if that's what really happened) Still, a more appropriate way of answering a question might be to address it intelligently. After all, these women are supposed to represent their state and be a spokesperson, if I'm not mistaken. Ex: "Although I personally don't condone or support gay marriage, I believe each state should ask the American people what they think, since in this country, voting for what we believe in is a privilege and we are a nation of laws." It's not just a matter of what she believes, but diplomacy. This wasn't a debate, it was a beauty pageant. She made a speech which is different from answering a direct question. Example, if a vegan was asked about eating meat. "Well, in my country we have a choice, but I was raised that slaughtering & butchering those poor, helpless animals is a sin. Would you eat your pet? In my country, in my family, we believe that all living creatures have rights, blah blah..." Nope..wouldn't say that. "Although I personally don't eat meat, each person should search her conscience and decide what is best both morally & healthfully for her and her family." I still think Miss NC is prettier. As I said before, Miss CA and others only ASSUME she would have won, even though she couldn't put a sentence together.

Still, I'd rather watch a program about the mating habits of the blue footed booby.

I had considered blogging about this. I was a bit annoyed at the question and also the hit-piece he wrote later. That makes it worse, to me. At best, it seems to be a phyrric victory for him. I think this could work out better for Miss CA than had she actually "won". (Miss America, 1984, anyone?)

Yup. The name Vanessa Williams popped into my head right away, time*treat. But I think this is entirely different. Didn't that controversy hurt her more than help? She eventually made a comeback, but I always thought she was beautiful & talented anyway. She was the first Black woman to ever win Miss America if I recall, which is why I always wondered if she was set up. I read she got a lot of hate mail after winning Miss New York.   Not sure if Miss USA had a talent competition and who won it.   Vanessa Williams has won award and is a popular recording artist too.

By the way, I don't mind if you start your own blog.   You might want to offer your own point of view.   I don't know if Miss CA would have won or not. (does anyone?) It was one of those questions that had no good answer, like asking about abortion or the death penalty, but I don't know what the others were asked.   Still, I don't think she answered it well.   Although this isn't American Idol, lots of contestants on that show didn't win when they were clearly a lot more talented, but the people with drive & determination moved on and had a great career. Whining about losing to me show lack of character. In my last comment I said I thought it could be a publicity stunt to draw attention to the pageant since ratings have dropped so much.
