Past studies have shown that sunspot numbers correspond to warming or cooling trends. The twentieth century has featured heightened activity, indicating a warming trend.  (Source: Wikimedia Commons)

Solar activity has shown a major spike in the twentieth century, corresponding to global warming. This cyclic variation was acknowledged by a recent NASA study, which reviewed a great deal of past climate data.  (Source: Wikimedia Commons)

Report indicates solar cycle has been impacting Earth since the Industrial Revolution

Some researchers believe that the solar cycle influences global climate changes.  They attribute recent warming trends to cyclic variation.  Skeptics, though, argue that there's little hard evidence of a solar hand in recent climate changes.

Now, a new research report from a surprising source may help to lay this skepticism to rest.  A study from
NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland looking at climate data over the past century has concluded that solar variation has made a significant impact on the Earth's climate.  The report concludes that evidence for climate changes based on solar radiation can be traced back as far as the Industrial Revolution.

Past research has shown that the sun goes through eleven year cycles.  At the cycle's peak, solar activity occurring near sunspots is particularly intense, basking the Earth in solar heat.  According to Robert Cahalan, a climatologist at the Goddard Space Flight Center, "Right now, we are in between major ice ages, in a period that has been called the Holocene."

Thomas Woods, solar scientist at the University of Colorado in Boulder concludes, "The fluctuations in the solar cycle impacts Earth's global temperature by about 0.1 degree Celsius, slightly hotter during solar maximum and cooler during solar minimum.  The sun is currently at its minimum, and the next solar maximum is expected in 2012."

According to the study, during periods of solar quiet, 1,361 watts per square meter of solar energy reaches Earth's outermost atmosphere.  Periods of more intense activity brought 1.4 watts per square meter (0.1 percent) more energy.

While the NASA study acknowledged the sun's influence on warming and cooling patterns, it then went badly off the tracks.  Ignoring its own evidence, it returned to an argument that man had replaced the sun as the cause current warming patterns.  Like many studies, this conclusion was based less on hard data and more on questionable correlations and inaccurate modeling techniques.

The inconvertible fact, here is that even NASA's own study acknowledges that solar variation has caused climate change in the past.  And even the study's members, mostly ardent supports of AGW theory, acknowledge that the sun may play a significant role in future climate changes."

Thanks Konane!

Science channel aired "The Sun" last night if you get a chance, see it, really puts into perspective our closest star.   Also, they aired a Planet Earth episode concerning plate tectonics and went thru the layers down to the core.   Surprisingly because of plate subduction geologists say there is enough water in the mantle that if it were to be released to the surface, the "entire planet Earth" would be under 2.5 miles of water! And of course they reiterated the Yellowstone caldera is overdue to erupt, which if it did, global warming and us would be done in a matter of weeks.

Anyone who continues to ignore the science that our sun is more powerful than cow farts and lawn mowers should just go ahead and send that money to Nigeria to claim their lottery winnings.

Thanks Jarasan!!! Last summer it seems some were expecting Yellowstone to blow, also an alien landing or communication in that area, neither of which happened. Although new age, I didn't bite. lol

That program sounds very interesting, will watch for it. Good to know there is sufficient water 'down there' probably much deeper than some underground sources which have been tapped for irrigation, said to be drying up in recent years.

Thanks Rick!! Agree completely!!! Maybe back in the 50's global warming due to humans could be pulled off, but thanks to the internet looks like it's being exposed for what it is ...... a giant cash cow to be paid for by one world order enslaved people.

Yellowstone super eruption is cyclical roughly every 640K years. Here is the wiki short and long of it:

The last full-scale eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano, the Lava Creek eruption which happened approximately 640,000 years ago[14], ejected approximately 240 cubic miles (1000 cubic kilometres) of rock and dust into the sky.[8]

Geologists are closely monitoring the rise and fall of the Yellowstone Plateau, which averages ±0.6 inches (about ±1.5 cm) yearly, as an indication of changes in magma chamber pressure.[15][16]

The upward movement of the Yellowstone caldera floor – almost 3 inches (7 centimeters) per year for the past three years – is more than three times greater than ever observed since such measurements began in 1923.[17] From mid-Summer 2004 through mid-Summer 2008, the land surface within the caldera has moved upwards, as much as 8 inches at the White Lake GPS station.[18] The U.S. Geological Survey, University of Utah and National Park Service scientists with the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory maintain that they "see no evidence that another such cataclysmic eruption will occur at Yellowstone in the foreseeable future. Recurrence intervals of these events are neither regular nor predictable.".[8]

The last sentence is the one to pay attention to.

Thanks Jarasan!!      "Recurrence intervals of these events are neither regular nor predictable.".[8]"

Am hearing you loud and clear on that one!! Considering global earth activity as a whole it could erupt with grave consequences for about 2/3 of the US.

Thanks Rick!! That's a really good one!!! If it weren't satire I'd probably believe it about as much as cows and dogs breaking wind causing it.
