Accurate 'plain english' description http://dprogram.net/2009/07/31/insane-food-bill-2749-passes-house-on-2nd-try/

Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-2749

Written vaguely enough to regulate a backyard garden, with nice fat fees added for the privilege of having it.

This has been in the works for awhile. I was writing about it in January-before-the-primaries-were-over-2008. Others have been on the case even longer. Just mentioning that to show this isn't to pick on the current prez.

Maybe we'll get lucky and it will die in the Senate.

Yet another one we need to contact the senate about. Thanks for the info and please continue bringing it forward as more comes out about it.

Everyone should grow a garden. If the government is going to control our food, it won't be safe to eat.

Be serious! Last year everyone here was complaining about E. Coli and other bacteria in our food. Even our pets weren't protected.   Then people died because of bad peanut butter containing salmonella.   At one point I thought we had gone back in a time machine to 1906 when Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle. Read it if you want to know what it's like without regulations. The USDA has been slipping. Approx 76 millon people in the U.S. get sick every year from illness due to food and thousands die. The FDA is increasing the guidelines to reduce contamination in fruits & vegetables. They're not going to send the police to raid your backyard. Gimme a break!!

Yeah, *they* also won't shoot & kill your son and wife and report nationwide the lie that it was a shootout at your "seperatist compound". Ruby Ridge never happened. "They" settled with the (remaining) family out-of-court, but the victims are still dead. Thanks for playing.

Ruby Ridge? So you do your gardening with a sawed off shotgun? :-)
Yes, Ruby Ridge was a tragedy and our government murdered those people.

After reading RickG's comment, all I could think about was "Soylent Green is People!"
