Chatham Deputies Involved In Shooting

Suspect dead, second sought after Chatham deputy shooting
Two Chatham County sheriff's deputies were shot Thursday following a car chase and shootout southeast of Siler City.
Bothwere listed in good condition at Chatham Hospital in Siler CityThursday afternoon, said Debra Henzey, director of community relationsfor the Chatham County Manager's Office. The extent of their injuries,however, was not known.
The suspect died, Henzey said. A deputy at the scene of the shooting said an active search was under way for a second suspect.
Theshooting happened around 1:30 p.m. when one of the suspects leddeputies on a chase from the Moore County line to Siler City, Henzeysaid. That's where the suspect fired two shots, injuring the deputies,she said.
Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation have been asked to investigate, an SBI spokeswoman said.
Further details were not immediately available. A news conference had been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. but was delayed.
