The Pompitous Of Love

Published:

Some people call me Space Cowboy

Some call me the Gangster of Love

Some people call me Maurice

Cuz I speak of the Pompitous of Love.

Those are lyrics from the Steve Miller song, The Joker.

Miller said that pompitous was just a "jive talk" word that he made up to make the song work cuz he didn't have a word to fill in that blank.

There are those who contest that but to me it is indicative of something that goes much deeper. Men will never understand the thought processes of women any more than we understand the word pompitous. Some things will always be a mystery. Maybe some things were meant to be a mystery.

Like all men, I love women. I know what they like. I know what they like to do. To be honest, I can have a lot more fun with a group of women than I can with the guys. But sometimes trying to understand what makes them tick can be frustrating. You can say something you consider to be completely innocuous and non-confrontational and it is taken to be something offensive or hurtful by someone you care about.

This will remain the mystery of the ages to me but I'll keep working on it.

Cuz I love wimmins.

It's all about feelings. Women are emotional creatures, and the "little things" tend to mean the most, when the men tend to believe that the "big" things are the most important.

For instance, a man can think he's doing everything for his woman.....she's taken care of, there's a *nice* roof over her head, spending money, a few of the finer things in life...yet he can't understand why she's still unhappy all the time. She's thinking, "Wow, he can give me everything, and he's so good to me THAT way, but....",
and she remembers all the times that he leaves, and never kisses her goodbye....
he never simply tells her that she's beautiful, to lift her spirits....
he never holds her hand in public.

No material thing could ever replace those things, no matter how much one would like to believe it might. The key to understanding women, may just be to pay attention to some of the things, that are most insignificant to you.

Now, I can't say all women are alike, there are the moochers, that just want money, money, money.....I am only referring to women that still have a heart.

I remember when I was pregnant, all I wanted was my husband to massage my feet, they hurt so bad. When I asked, he ignored me.

He went out and bought me one of those foot massagers, that you put water in, and they heat up. When my back hurt, he bought me a massage pad that looks like a car-seat cover (you can use it in the car, too, or just a chair), and it heats up and everything. See, the gesture was nice on his part, that was a nice gift, but not at ALL what I wanted or needed. All I wanted was to be close to him and feel a human touch. So, in the end, I'm sad, he's satisfied that he doesn't have to "deal with me", and my back still hurts, so we're back where we started. Such a simple fix. People tend to forget, that just a little thing could bring great joy to someone's life.

If everyone was open to communication (or even cared), it would fix so many things.

Of course, there are lots of different reasons that someone might take offense to something you've said...maybe reasons that wouldn't even occur to you. That's true for both sexes.

Or, the next time you want to say something that might be considered 'questionable', just bite your tongue? LOL

Great insight Lady. I know those things but do need to be reminded every once in a while. It just seems somehow to me that it goes even deeper than that sometimes. Sometimes communication feels like trying to explain what the color blue looks like to a blind person.

I'm not having that particular problem now and I didn't mean it regarding an argumentative standpoint in a relationship but more in an everyday generic sense. I think there's a chasm and that it's by design. I'm sure there's a reason for it, possibly for nothing more than the lure of the mystery itself.

I do bite my tongue on a regular basis BTW, lol.

I know that you meant it in a generic way, but I thought I'd stay and rant for awhile!!! LMAO!
