You failed to mention the only ones that matter:
1)   He usually wins
2)   He recognizes fraud when he sees it,
3)   He knows when to change games,
4)   He knows when to quit.

If he doesn't have those but is still a confident gambler he needs to find something else to be confident about.

I think the traits of a confident gambler covers all 4 of your points Rip, but on a deeper level. Through experience, planning and focused objectives you will win if you have the knowledge.
(a system that you can take to the bank) Knowledge isn't worth nothing if you don't have the wisdom. Wisdom is all of the other stuff. It is how to use your knowledge to win. I know from experience. Though perception you will recognize fraud (if that is a valid point), though planning, discipline and money management you will know when to change and through rational behavior you will know when to quit. Many times I have the hits (played it yesterday of something, threw it away, influenced by new information, became sidetracked and unfocused with other things besides the lottery or irrational behavior) but failed at what it takes to be a good gambler. I think the word confident cheapens it. I think it should be replaced with the word "successful." I'm not saying that I exhibit these characteristic because I don't. I wish. I let at least 3 hits a week get by me because I get in my own way.
