IE8 and microsoft support stinks

Published:

I came home late last night and got an error message. My IE8 icon was gone along with windows media player. Some virus got in and wreaked havoc.

I tried uninstalling IE8 but it wasn't on the add/remove list. I tried reinstalling it but it said I already have it. I called Microsoft chat and they gave me a link for technical support but they want 39 bucks to help me. What a bunch of crap.

They stink.....!!!

Hello: Joker
Sorry to hear about your techical issues.
Do you have your system stored on a "External Harddrive"?   And, have you saved all of your files & programs?
You can restore it back to the day before you think you got the virus, that might help. Let me know what happens.
And, that's another reason, I like having programs on CD's instead of downloading them.

Thanx duffle, no I don't have an external hard drive. I rstored today back to the 8th of August, but there is still something lurking. I have Registry Mechanic by PC tools which is great. But every time I reboot my compooter, and run my registry mechanic, it shows like 150 problems and fixes it right away. I guess I won't reboot...lol

Something really got inside here, overnight, literally. I can't install IE*, AVG, and even Opera browser, even though I had it today. It seems whatever I had in my laptop that was corrupted, also won't allow reinstall as if any components related to the corrupted program brings error messages during installation. I even had to uninstall Realplayer, and will try to reinstall it tonight but I bet it won't let me do that either. Oh well, I just bought this laptop 8 or so months ago and now the registry has been infiltrated. I'm currently in the process of installing PC tools anti-virus .

I'll just have to have my computer buddy at work delete my OS and reinstall it with a fresh copy. My Toshiba never came with a CD which surprised me, and now I'll have to pay a hundred bucks or so to get a CD to reinstall windows.

These virus people really have nothing better to do than to prey on innocent folks. This whole internet crap is costing me big time. I might just give up the whole thing. I bought a new laptop so I wouldn't have these problems for at least a few years, but it seems it doesn't matter how new it is. They get you either way.

Right, I have Norton, it's expensive, but, it's good. I think I heard something on the news, about a new virus out , being lethal.
You have to be careful of what sites you go to and what you open, but, if they do a attack, and you have some ports open, you become a victim. I've been fortunate, with this laptop, but, my desktop got crashed several times, but , I brought it back up.
If you hit a pick 3 winning number, buy a "External hard drive, and save everything to it, files, operating system, everything, o.k.
That way if you get a virus, you just upload it from the external harddrive. That's why the price of Flashdrives went up, ughhhhhhh.
My laptop is only 4 GB, so I bought a 8 GB flashdrive, and backed up my system on their, just in case.
Good Luck.

Maybe the people selling the externals, and at a higher price are in cahoots with the virus guys. And maybe the anti-software guys are also involved...lol

You make sense. I will have to get one.
Thanx for the info.

lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
The new thing is a Terabyte @ a cost of about, $79.00, might even be cheaper now.   So, if you get one, get a Terabyte, you might have to spell check that word, lol.
Good Luck.

You can email MS for free and receive free support via email.
Help and Support:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/ie8_browserDetect

However, if a virus is involved then it has to be taken care of before you attempt to fix Internet Explorer or it will probably infect it again.

You can post questions to MS forums.

I know how you don't like to "touch" your computer but if you want some help to possibly remove the virus, let me know.
