This regime (and the last) is creating its own debt. The citizens are not responsible for debt incurred that does not materially benefit them (odious debt). This has been done in the past by despotic regimes and has been recognized by the world community as invalid debt. Most of our debt created from Sept. 2008 falls under this category.

However if we had Fair Tax all the superfluous spending could be checked real quick by the population stopping buying stuff. Imagine Fair Tax replacing all federal taxes is going to look pretty good when folks start counting the ways the government is seizing their head earned money.
