Decadence

Published:

Morning blogsters:

Feeling almost sinful about all the rain we're getting here lately.  Every day seems, a shower.  Water's overflowing the tanks for the village up behind the house, running in the irrigation ditches even though nobody's irrigating.

Puddles out in the driveway and on the road down to the pavement.  Having so much water's almost certain to lead to all manner of ribaldry, revelry and sloth.

On the other hand, we must be feeling reasonably charitable about it.  They're releasing water from Elephant Butte and Caballo reservoirs to run down the Rio Grande for Texans to waste.

This is going to take some getting used to, if it lasts.

Jack you all are lucky you have so much water. We have acute water shortages in our country. We get water twice a day and now its become very expensive as well. Whenever I have house guests, I have to request them not to waste water because it is quickly becoming a scarce commodity! You all have it really easy there..to appreciate the worth of water come to India!!

Hi Shalini. It's all a matter of perspective. We here in my village think of ourselves as water-deficient.... been through a long period of drought, by US standards, in a desert climate.

I agree with you. We Americans frequently believe the abundance we have is less than it is. That's because what we're comparing it to is our own experience, rather than what's elsewhere.

Gracias for the reality check.
