For your father you might try a mixture of sheep sorrel, black burdock, slippery elm and turkey rhubarb. Boil them up in a gallon of water for half an hour in glass or stainless steel and let them sit for twelve hours before straining off the grinds.

Keep it refrigerated and give your dad an ounce in the morning and an ounce at night.

You might consider taking a similar dosage yourself if you're at risk.
