Lots of blood, no corpse

Published:

Morning blogsters:

Minor mystery here this morning.  Got me wondering and the cats spooked to high heaven.

I went out for my wake-up smoke and discovered a LOT of blood on the front porch.  A lot.  No evidence of where it came from, why it's there...

No corpse lying around that I'm able to find in the dark sporting a half-inch hole in the forehead and two in the chest, so I'm reasonably certain I didn't get up during the night, shoot a prowler, and casually go back to bed to deal with this after daybreak.

I slept fairly soundly and didn't hear anything during the nightl.  The security camera didn't pick up any noise.  But somewhere out there in the world there's a warm-blooded creature with a lot less of it circulating around inside him than he had yesterday.

Strange way to start a day.

Jack

maybe it was a dead animal.could've gotten attacked and layed there for a while to gather some strength and then looked for somewhere to crawl to and die........

Morning Mike.

Might have been that. I'm inclined to hope so. Makes things a lot less complicated for there not to be a human bean husk lying around in the bushes or crawled up underneath the truck.

Been going over the possibilities..... It was somewhat coagulated, but not entirely.. probably hadn't been there more than an hour.... I'd say some large mammal, hog-sized or larger, lost it there, or that someone dumped it there out of mischief.

There's a middling amount of hog-killing goes on in the village this time of year for making tamales. Could be someone thought it would be a cute joke.

Thanks for the comment, amigo.

it was probably just michael jackson.someone wanted to take him somewhere he'd never be found.sorry jack.BUT since michael jackson owns the beatles catalog maybe you could turn him in for a little reward.might earn you some brownie points with 'ol paul mccartney himself.you could end up owning some of the best known songs in the world........lol.jack i'm just messing with ya!!

Hi JAP69.
No.... I just cleaned it up, drenched the ground trying to wash it off the surface, and let it go. However, found a black wool/felt hat of tolerable quality out by the gate which I assume the bleeder or blood spiller left as a gift for my troubles. Sort of fedora style, but with no sweat band or band. I'll have to clean it up some, but it won't go to waste living here with me and the cats.

I consider the incident closed. I wondered briefly whether the coincidence of it happening so close in time to the anniversary of Mel's homicide, but it isn't worth pondering. Old Mel and I used to occasionally get the same people angry at us and there's been reason to think some still carried the torch. That's what the long series of prowler incidents here were assumed to be.

Anyway, ain't worth the extra thinking it puts the old noggin to, worrying about it.

Thanks for the comment.

Hi angelm:

I'll confess I didn't get as much enjoyment out of the experience as I might have if I'd found a corpse out there, or if someone gave me a couple of dozen homespun tamales. But I did get a black hat I'm looking forward to pulling down low over my steely eyes and squinting out at this sissy world, once it's cleaned up some.

Thanks for the comment

Mike:

Michael Jackson? Must be after my time. However, I do recall the Beatles. Sort of hacked me off what they did to Rock and Roll.

Actually, I got so I liked them pretty well eventually. Used to be a person could lean up against a tree and listen to them, or Led Zep, or the Iron Butterfly, and watch the clouds pretty well on a clear day.

Thanks for the comment.
