LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A spokeswoman says a suburban Atlanta teacher has resigned after an investigation over third-grade students being assigned math homework with word problems about slavery.

One of the problems read: "Each tree has 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?"

Another was: "If Frederick got two beatings each day, how many beatings did he get in one week?"

Gwinnett County schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said Wednesday an investigation has concluded into four teachers who gave out the assignments at Beaver Ridge Elementary. She says the school system accepted the resignation of one teacher but declined to elaborate on the rest.

Parents were angered by the math problems, and the NAACP had called for teachers to be fired.

According to the new definition the Republicans have given to racism, these teachers aren't racists. They were only trying to teach math and the history of slavery at the same time. There is nothing offending or racist about this. These are only math problems.

We never said these slaves were black, they were picking oranges.   We said Frederick and not Douglas. The NAACP is out of line and should'nt have a problem with this.

It's hard for me to believe this happened in 2012 so blatantly in the school system and was sent home for homework.

Obama hate brought it all back with the new definition coined by the RACIST REPUBLICAN SLAVERY CAMPAIGN THAT SPREAD LIES. This hurts white and other children too. Children deserve the right to learn someone from the inside out, not the outside only.

SHAME ON PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT RACIST BUT SPREAD RACIST PROPAGANDA FOR POLITICAL REASONS ONLY.

Nobody needs lessons about racism from the most notorious racist on this site jan-jan - you.
Your whole life revolves around playing the race card and whining about who's fault it is that you're a failure in life.
Well guess what jan-jan? It's your fault because you're fat and lazy and wanted to sit around on your big fat ass all your life and run your big fat mouth instead of working like the rest of us. Get over it.
Stop being so hateful, life's too short. A lot of these white people that you hate so much have ancestors who gave their lives fighting so you could be free. Respect that fact. Stop the hate.
Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. The slave owners were democrats. And they still own your vote.
When are you gonna wake the f--- up?

WOW!!
And just when you thought it was save to go into the water.
I'm glad I just can't stand the human race completely.
GOD is the most tolerant and forgiving being in existance.
Who would think that those beautiful babies you see in the hospital nursery may end up being some of the most horrendous humans in existance.
It's hatred that causes me to wonder what exactly people believe when they profess christianity and other religions.
What kind of deity enourages the malicious behaviour the human species is capable of producing every moment of their miserable existance?
