"The county engineer’s office is in charge of the land buy. It has hired an appraisal firm and appraisal review firm, at a total cost of $30,000, to assess Langworthy’s land and make him an offer, Gilday said."

Are they f***in stupid. $30,000.00 for an appraisal and offer.
I gotta look up to see if the people in Gov't there are liberals or just plain meatheads.

John appraisals for property have dropped so low that many cant sell their property for what it's worth let alone a measly profit.

This will be another major downfall it something doesn't change. I just refinance my house because i used the equity in it to build a garage. The garage payment was like 700 a month the house payment is like 500 at 1200 a month i could be living in a new 250,000 house with a 3 car garage. The appraiser appraised my new garage and old house for 75 grand. Two yrs ago my house taxes were appraised at 175 grand so where did the come up with my house only being worth 75 grand.

Yep the housing industry has taken a big hit in recent years. I worked in housing and light commercial all my life until I retired 3 1/2 years ago.
For the wages they pay now it is just as well I got out. A lot of people that hire carpenters want you to have your own work vehicle with tools generally. Invest 25 to 30 thou in that to earn 14 to 16 dollars an houras an employee. Not likely. And a lot of employers want you to work as self employed. The cost to be self employed is not cheap either.
Might as well work as a dishwasher for 8 dollars an hour and all you can eat.
