They should do fine with no pay for awhile since on average they make a lot more than the people who pay for their salaries and insurance and holidays and vacations and pension plans.

I saw on the news yesterday where the average income in Chicago is $50,000 and the average income for public school teachers is $74,000. And the teachers only work 9 months a year for it while getting full medical coverage, paid holidays, paid vacations and huge pensions.

And they're always whining and demanding more while the kids keep coming out dumb and dumber.
They should work for free more often.

People always whine and cry that Teachers make so much money and only work 9 months out of the year. Well, when school ends then the teachers have to go to school for themselves. Each state has requirements that must be fulfilled either by sitting in a college classroom or attending seminars and classes that have been approved by their district. Teachers also must use that time to plan a years worth of lessons for the next year (no easy task). They have to ensure that they incorporate the standards that are set up by their respective state education systems. They collaborate with each other to try to come up with innovative lessons that encourage the student to use critical thinking. Many teachers use a portion of their pay to buy things for their classrooms, buy meals, clothes, pencils, and writing paper for their students when the parents cannot provide. Teachers have to do more with less. Many times the difference comes right out of their pockets. The government only gives them a 250.00 deduction regardless of how much they spend in their classrooms.   I know..I am a retired teacher and to me they will never be over paid. The "big" pension is non existent. It is based solely on what state you work in and how many years you taught. In TN only some teachers get medical and dental when they retire. My county is not one of them. The teachers here pay over 600 dollars per month for medical services after they retire. This backlash against teachers is unfounded. I think someone has another agenda going on. Time will tell.

The "big" pension is non-existent? I personally know a retired teacher from suburban Chicago who gets a pension of $82,000 a year. Sounds pretty big to me. For a teacher, anyway.

You are right Littleoldlady it's according to what state your in. This Governor Synder now started to tax pension in this state. That what we get when the Eastside don't vote. Just like the idiot ten year going back Engler(R).
