GEICO is Now Beginning to Chap My "Arse"
Published:
Is it just me, or have all of the ads from insurance mega-carrier GEICO Corp finally run their course?
The cute little gecko was a nice twist to get the company's name out there initially. Then came the cavemen and their sophistication and being offended by comments made by a company spokesman. Clever.
However, GEICO's most recent ads featuring our little salamander wannabe have really begun to get stale. Who really cares what a team of geckos (or is it geck-oes?) can do to push insurance? And what is this ridiculousness when the gecko talks about "pie and chips"? Who cares? And what the h-e-double hockey sticks is he talking about? And that pretentious British accent is one of those that make you want to beat the next Brit you see on the street half to death with their pub's pint glass.
Perhaps GEICO has gotten to the point where they don't need any new business and that just putting their name out there, no matter how annoying the ad may be is good enough. I believe if they aren't careful, they may start LOSING business. I for one will never purchase through them.
There aren't enough free pie and chips in this world to bring me to them!

GEICO was good to me when I had a car accident (not at fault) I don't know how they will treat you if you were at fault, but they had been the best car insurance company I've ever had.
Now, maybe it's just me, but whenever I rear-end someone, and he gets out with a loaded gun in his hand, the first thing I do is to APOLOGIZE to that person. But not this kid. Apparently, he thought it would be fun to see where my limits were, so he continued his profane discourse. The kid refused my instructions to call the police and, since I don't carry a cell phone, I reasoned that my best course of action would be to leave before reaching the point where I saw it as my responsibility to teach this punk to respect his elders. I picked up several pieces of his truck drove to a nearby Citgo station, where I called the sheriff to report the wreck. As I was relating the story, the dispatcher told me that the kid was on another phone, reporting that I had taken a shot at him and then had fled the scene!
A few weeks later, I received a letter from Geico, explaining that their client's version of events differed from what had actually happened, and so they weren't going to pay for the damage to my bumper (the "crack" I heard turned out to be our side-view mirrors making contact as I passed). I sued in small-claims court, and I'm proud to say that I destroyed the attorney the kid's parents had hired to get him out of it. The kid testified that I had been over a mile away when he pulled out of his driveway, that I had attempted to pass on a hill and that I had pulled in front of him and then stopped abruptly, forcing him to hit me. The police report showed no hill on the diagram, and the respective speeds to which the defendant alluded didn't match up to the evidence. Also, my truck has anti-lock brakes, so stopping abruptly in snow or ice is never an option. I told the judge that the kid had no clue how close he came to dying that day, because if I had seen anything, even his keys, in his hands when he pulled them from his pockets, I would have dropped him where he stood. The judge then made a comment about there being a time and place to show your girlfriend how tough you are, and this probably wasn't it.
I won the case and Geico eventually paid my claim. The kid was charged with filing a false police report, but I have a soft spot for young people, even stupid ones, so I didn't show up to testify. Consequently, the charges were dismissed, but I remain hopeful that he learned something from the experience. I know I learned something about Geico ...
