That ship has sailed.
He promised 'em jobs - all he gave 'em was more taxes to pay.
They threw people out of the affordable loan (William Ford) going from something like $150 month to $583 a month and they students started defaulting.
You can owe $15,000 and in 3 years it can go to $88,000 - no $hit. That much interest. Some kind of law was passed around the time Sallie Mae went private and that Wall Street fraud was going on.
Now because of the Healthcare bill students can stay on their parents insurance now until age 26 and Obama have promised that he will do something about the way the government is collecting on the default loans by using collection agencies who only care about their fee and their other fees too up to 28% and private ones more than that.
The agencies are not offering the affordable plan (rehabitation) but are railroading and getting up to $5000 in upfront fees, like a deposit. The only way you can get out of a student loan now is to die because they take social security checks, disability checks, you can be in the hospital terminally ill and they will take you social security check but the collection agencies aren't telling people that they can be exempt if they are disable. It's really a mess.
College kids are coming out of college not even able to have an apartment, car because the government are taking all their money through offsetting their wages if they defaulted. Research it.
He also stopped the banks from camping out on college campuses getting the student in outstanding credit card debt too. I remember they would all be in the "pit" at Carolina when my daughter was there.
Also, interest rate on college loans are suppose to be doubling soon.
And also, he got the young hispanic vote.

Free ice cream.
Not enough to give it out free to everybody who lined up.
It's called personal responsibility.
Check it out sometime.
And yes, you do have to pay the money back (the nerve!) and might have to do without that low-rider car or apartment right away and live with family.
Too bad, deal with it.
