The only question it sparks with me is, "What took them so long?"

This is the result of decades of Liberals' values and morals being forced on society and school kids.
Those school kids are grown now and are teachers themselves and don't know how to act. The only redeeming factor is those who are strong enough and smart enough to break free from the indoctrination and think for themselves.
It's like Churchill once said:
"Whoever isn't Liberal by the age of 20 has no heart, and whoever isn't Conservative by the age of 40 has no brain."
