They may advertise to help you but they can not force you. Not yet anyhow but it is coming where they will base your food stamp eligibility based on your tax return. You will get a food stamp card with your tax return.
DSS could also force you to take food stamps if you have children and are eligible but refuse to file for food stamps. Would come under child neglect rule.
