I remember hearing a couple old-timers who were stationed in England during WWII saying they hated the Red Cross but loved the Salvation Army. They said everytime after the Germans bombed the Red Cross and Salvation Army trucks would come out with donuts and coffee for displaced people and troops and emergency personnel. The Salvation Army gave it out free but the Red Cross always made you pay like a dime or something for it. They really resented that.

As a young man I always gave to the Red-Cross. I was involved in a situation from a fire and I got one hell of a song and dance about being helped, and from that day on I haven't given the Red-Cross a penny, but I do contribute to others..

I could tell you stories about how the Red Cross screwed me and other military. I don't give to them, but I do give to Samaritan's Purse and Salvation Army for disaster related matters.

I do not donate to anyone.
If I see or know someone in need I will personally give them assistance.

I take good condition household items to Salvation Army, I donate to Childrens Hospital of Michigan and St. Jude, Kids with cancer or serious illness will always come first.
