I was going to reference the "macho" angle by referring to John Wayne in the movie "Big Jake" where he had a dog named "Dog" and when he said "Dog!" the dog would attack whoever the Duke was looking at.
And I thought that would nicely shore up my theory that real men like dogs and women and lesser men like cats.
But then I remembered that the Duke had a cat named "General Lee" in the movie "True Grit."
Which blew my theory all to hell.
So never mind.
