Feds Cutting the Food Stamp Program (SNAP)
Published:
I must say that I am not angry with this. In fact, I am quite elated. I am so tired of folks scamming to get these food stamps. What is wrong with getting off your behind and getting a job? No job skills? GET SOME! I am appalled by the 20 somethings with NO children who refuse to get a job because they "might lose their food stamps." What is wrong with them? I had one to tell me that they COULDN'T get their GED because their food stamps would be CUT-OFF. Not true but they had convinced themselves it was true. Some of the young, single folks who get this benefit are actually trying to live off of this meager amount. It is my opinion that the food stamp program is destroying our young people. It is re-enforcing the "something" for "nothing" ideal and smothering the "I NEED TO GET OFF MY BUTT AND GET A JOB OR I MIGHT STARVE" ideal.
What happened to just getting a "hand out" or "leg up" just for the time that you need it and then let it go. You wouldn't stay on crutches longer than you had to would you? I know people who live and work in 1 state draw food stamps from another state, people who still claim their kids when the child is grown already, people who pay their rent with their food stamps, people who sell them for money in order to get drugs, incarcerated individuals who sell or give their benefits to others. and on and on. Folks act like they are entitled to get food stamps no matter what and there seems to be NO shame in getting them even when they are not needed. That creates a shortage for the people who really need them and can't get them.
Don't get me wrong, I got food stamps at one time FOR JUST 1 TIME! I was going to school and I didn't make enough money to buy food. I went to the HS office and they gave me $30.00 worth of food stamps for 2 months. That was all I needed, just a small amount of help. I was appreciative. Those stamps probably kept me from totally starving. I got another job making more money and never needed them again. Folks today seem to think they can put them in their wills.."I leave my foodstamp card to Billy Boy". This has got to stop!
At least they need to get the job component passed..if you draw them, you have to have some type of job..even if it is volunteering..and for all others..get those pee cups ready cause it's coming!! Drug testing for your beloved food stamps!
But I can't blame this on just the people. The Federal government has let this program get totally out of control. There is almost no monitering and now you don't even hear about them busting someone for food stamp fraud. The food stamp program is a "secondary economy". The 400 Billion that they are to cut over the next 5 years is just 5% of this program. That is so scary.
Don't think I am writing this because I am jealous that I don't draw them.. I have never been eligible for them but that 1 time so many years ago. My wages at that was $4.15 per hour. When I retired, my wages were about $30.00 an hour. I am writing this because I feel like our young people are not using their full potential when they stay on this program for too long. It seems to destroy the natural drive in a person that makes them want to succeed in life and take care of themselves.

This will hurt us in several ways, skilled labor shortage, plumbers, electricians..etc.
They won't be paying into the tax base, or worse Social Security, when we come of age to collect, there will be a serious shortage.
My best advice, save every dollar you can and earmark it for your old age.
