Click it or ticket

It is 4 pm on Wed. afternoon. The cops in my suburb have decided to run a road block on the busiest road in town at this time of day. This is our rush hour. Why, you ask? To see if you are wearing your seatbelt.

6 vehicles and 8 cops, two lanes funneled into one in each direction, traffic backing up to the previous stop lights.

This is our taxpayer money at work.

Is there any sanity left in this world?

it's a nation wide campaign. they have spent millions on TV adds and billboards. In Maryland first offence is a ticket, continue breaking the law and get caught it could mean points.

At every accident scene on most roads they block traffic sometimes for hrs while the run their investigations. Not one officer directs traffic they make you sit there and wait. Will not clear a path so cars can at least move single file around said incidents. Many of the traffic stoppages could be a little fender bender it's doesn't matter how big or small the accident. i'm surprised some police haven't been shot at for making people wait like they do.

You would think they would do everything in their power to get traffic moving along but no they could care less if you burn a tank of gas waiting for them to get done.

You think that's insane? Try this on for size.....

Here in Florida, they lifted the helmet law for motorcycles about a year ago, but give tickets out for no belted drivers.

I guess if you have enough Hell's Angels riders and other motorcycle owners rallying at Washington, anything is possible. Go figure.

I say let's start a nationwide petition against forced seatbelt laws. Since when has it been the governments job to protect you from yoursel? Here we go...more police state. It's against the law to kill yourself. When I first heard that, I about fell off my chair.....LOL

Also, I forgot to mention that here in Florida, the margin of fatalities between the people who used belts and the ones who didn't was very narrow. I think it was about a 46 to 52 split, in favor of the belted passengers.

I don't wera them because I think that since it's been such a long time since I have, that if I start now, I maybe jinxing myself.....LOL

Also, I've heard of a few people here in Florida, locally, who've been trapped in a canal, upside down, and drowned after the accident, due to the belt either jamming, or people panic, and can't find the red release button. I couldn't write on both hands, how many of my passengers can't free themselves in my cab, at the end of the ride. They look endlessley for that red release button, and they're not under water, upside down. Most of the time, I have to push the button to release them. Pretty sad. I have to be fair and say that alot of my passengers are elderly, but if you can't find a long red button, somethings wrong.

Just my two pesos....

Pac and Four, good points. I love how they are "protecting" us.

Update, 4:40 pm: They are up to 9 vehicles and more than 10 cops now. Traffic is getting heavier. They are pulling people over left and right and yelling at the drivers to go slower as they drive through the gauntlet. I've seen a few fingers displayed after the gauntlet has been passed. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life. My sons just got home and say the back up goes back two stoplights now. And they wonder why they "don't get no respect". The walking brain tumor who came up with the timing of this "enforcement" should be hung by the soccer accoutrements.

In Idaho they show the "Click it or ticket" commercials constantly. And they are doing a lot of the roadblocks near the school areas. It's kind of insane.
