Yes, the Republican party is in a turmoil today and will be for some time to come. The Republican elite are acting more like democrats than Republicans while the party's base in turning more to the right (i,.e. TEA party). I believe the Republican elite will lose out and when they do, the Republican party will no longer be in turmoil.

When this happens, look for the country to regain their dominance in worldly affairs and the citizens lifestyle to improve.
