A picture is worth a thousand words of lies. There's a lot of validity to the "conservatives are swayed by logic, liberals by emotion" argument, but I believe most people have emotional responses to certain kind of stimuli, particularly music. If you have ever seen the pseudo-documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", then that's a prime example. It wasn't the "evidence" in the movie that got people so alarmed, it was the soundtrack; ominous music playing while smokestacks belched out "greenhouse gases" and pollution (actually water vapor, but...) and sad violin music that tugged at the heartstrings when polar bears were "stranded" on ice floes, the stirring refrain that reinforces the statement that "it's not too late to do something" segment etc. Most people watching it would have fallen asleep in ten minutes w/out the soundtrack.

The Dems always need a crisis.
