Homeless Man Finds $21,000 in Bonds
DETROIT (July 22) - A homeless man searching for returnable bottles in a trash bin found 31 U.S. savings bonds worth nearly $21,000 in a bag of clothes.

Charles Moore, 59, took the bonds to a 24-hour walk-in homeless shelter, where a staffer tracked down the family of the man whose name was on the bonds.

"They belong to him," Moore told The Detroit News. "I did the right thing."

Ernest Lehto's family had given away many of his clothes shortly after his death in 2004.

How the bonds ended up in the trash bin is a mystery, but Lehto's family left Moore a $100 reward.

"What a good Samaritan," said Neil Lehto, who picked up the bonds Friday that had belonged to his late father.

What a cheap son of a b$#%*.
I would have given atleast 500 bucks to the homeless man.
Sorry, but I can't help it. I'm venting because I get some customers in my cab who own 3 million dollar homes and give me a 5 dollar tip on a 70 dollar ride. Cheap bastards. I tip more to the pizza delivery guy who only drives no more than a couple of miles. They should be ashamed of themselves...
There...I got it off my chest...LOL

its been said that richer people tip worse than a middle class regular person.your right they have so much it wouldn't put a dent in their wallet to give twenty bucks on a cab ride.they should've gave the man a 500 dollar tip like you said.....

"THAT'S A G***D*MN SHAME!!!" Now, what in the hell can one do with a hundred bucks?! Almost, absolutely nothing. Especially, a homeless person. You can't even get a cheap hotel room at that price. You can't. You know what, I figure it like this. They have so much money that they didn't even miss the $21,000.00. After all, it was already in the trash and headed to the dump to be buried forever. The very minimum amount this man should have received was a 10 percent finder's fee, which would have $2,100.00.
He should have kept the damn bonds, cashed them in, and perhaps it would have been a new lease on life for this homeless person. Reading about such lack of charity makes me sick to my stomach! Literally!
