I have never understood why certain foods are called soul food. Can anyone give an intelligent answer? I was raised on pork chops , ham, fried chicken(mostly on Sunday), every type of vegetable you can mention. Fish was once a week, on Friday. None of the above was store bought, except occasionally, fish. Every White and Black family, I knew, living in the county, ate the same type of food. The first time , I heard the word, "Soul Food", was in the military. The response I got was, " food that Blacks eat". Since when was Blacks, the only people who ate the type of food, listed above?
