MARGARETTA TWP., Ohio — A woman died after being struck by a car while walking along U.S. 6 on Tuesday night.
The crash occurred just west of Ohio 269 shortly before 10 p.m.
Early this morning, the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the victim as Deborah McDonald, 47, Crystal Rock. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Joe Wentworth said a Chevrolet Impala traveling west hit McDonald as she walked in the same direction.
He did not know why she was walking along the highway and said the patrol is investigating whether alcohol was involved.
"We are going to look into where she came from and where she was going," he said.
It's not known how fast the car was traveling, The driver was identified as Eleanor Stults, 48, Fremont, and she was not injured. She is not suspected of consuming alcohol, troopers said this morning.
Erie County Sheriff's deputies and the Margaretta Township Fire Department also responded to the scene and closed a portion of U.S. 6.
A handful of patrons in Bayside Tavern, located at the intersection, said McDonald was in the tavern celebrating her winnings in the lottery game show Cash Explosion Double Play.
She and a few companions played some pool, then left the tavern shortly before the crash.

That is so sad. my prayers to her family.
Condolences to her family.
That is sad, I wonder why she was walking along the highway. My condolences to her family.
color me curious as well
i dont know if it was an accident or not after all it occured on Janurary10...I might have been an accident what i am suprise is that so many cars passing by of different ages, the odds that the person will be her age or 1 less or more than her age is striking...is like you getting hit by a car and you found out that the person that hit you look exactly like you but is not related to you...
anyways is none of my bussiness...i got stuff to worry about...maybe a woman should do that to a man when he is walking..even things out...or better a body builder do that to a regular person even things out...
How much did she win?
SANDUSKY, Ohio -- A lottery winner who was struck and killed by a car in northern Ohio on the day she got her check had just spent some of the money on wedding rings for her and her husband.
The Ohio Highway Patrol says 47-year-old Deborah McDonald of Crystal Rock was walking home from a bar when she was hit by a car.
Investigators say McDonald had been drinking and celebrating her winnings before she died.
McDonald got a check for $5,520 on Tuesday and treated her husband and friends to dinner. Friends say she also bought a pair of wedding rings that the couple had been unable to afford.
McDonald won the money in the Ohio Lottery's TV game show "Cash Explosion Double Play."
The show is set to air Saturday.
Sad news but I am thankful that it gets posted. I just don’t understand why the woman was walking. No cabs? Maybe she lived close by. Someone around here had the same fate a few weeks ago and it was dark out. It was noticed he was wearing dark cloths and too close to traffic. Not exactly a residential area and far from housing. I wonder if this news would be as interesting if she had won a pick 3 or some scratch-off?
Her husband should have been with her, or she with him. It was sweet of her to get the rings on the very same day she was paid.
Makes you wonder what kind of friends she had. She was probably buying drinks for everybody playing pool and then nobody offers her a ride home?
Sad, sad story.
That is so sad. On the day she got her check, even. Yea, I wonder what kind of friends she had. They were probably all drunk on her dime, and none of them could drive. Maybe she took off walking home because of that. I'm so sorry for her husband-to-be....
Very sad article. I too wonder why she was walking on the side of the highway so late.
Thanks, TheLoveOfMoney.
Life is full of ironies, ain't it?
