Illinois Lottery

An Elgin, Illinois, man has won a $4 million lottery prize after purchasing a ticket from Lundeen's Liquors in St. Charles.

Michael Stetar, 54, has been a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for the past 17 years. He buys a lottery ticket weekly and won big after trying his luck on a new game.

He was on a break when he went into Lundeen's Liquors, 610 East Main St. in St. Charles, to get a snack and saw the Golden Casino ticket.

"I feel luckier when I play a new game so when I saw the Golden Casino ticket, I bought it, and I won!" Stetar said in the statement. "I scratched my ticket outside and then ran back into the store and had the clerk confirm that I really did win!"

Stetar took a one-time payment of $2.4 million.

He plans to invest the windfall for retirement and has consulted a professional financial advisor.

"I'm also going to treat myself to a new truck," he added.

Lundeen's Liquors will receive a $40,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket. Stetar chose to take his prize as a one-time payment of $2,400,000.

Todd,

Received a letter from the Mass. lottery.  They've moved their season tickets to the summer, July 5th-August 8, 2015.  In it was mention of the Powerball matrix changing this October.  Pick 5 up from 59 to 69 and Powerball down from 35 to 1/26.  Match 4 & 1 goes from $10K to $50K.  It didn't mention the odds, but certainly they're astronomical.  Powerball will not be available for this special season ticket sales dates.

Hey Maringoman,

I'll be home late July and glad to be able to get Mass. season tickets with the discount.  I see they've changed the Powerball matrix making it harder to win IMO.

Congratulations Mike, nice win!!

The reason I got the letter informing me of the upcoming changes is because I'm a season ticket holder. I don't think I'll be renewing my subscription because I don't think it's worth it anymore.  I'll just play here and there when I feel like. Good luck Thumbs Up

Thank you for the info; will be going to their website in a minute.  Not happy with the Power ball changes and am curious what the new odds are.  Can Australians play lotteries in other states you have?  Thanks to an outdated law from 1961 we are forbidden to do this.  So much for free speech, IMO!

Hooray for the postal worker. Wonder if he will  put some of his winning in precious metals and not in stocks.

Those financial advisers also have some interesting fees for their advice based on the worth of your assets.

Cool

Did the lottery tell him, 'the check is in the mail'?
