The New Hampshire Lottery says the winner of the $487 million Powerball jackpot in July is set to claim the prize.

The lottery said Friday that attorneys for the winner are planning to come forward Monday and will announce the winner's philanthropic plans for the money. It's not clear if the winner will make an appearance.

It was the eighth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot. The lump sum option is worth $330.6 million.

The winning ticket was sold at a Hannaford Supermarket in Raymond for the drawing on July 30. The southern New Hampshire town has about 10,000 residents.

Tickets are sold in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

I don't see why it takes so long for people to claim their winnings. Find a lawyer, accountant, redraft your will, set up any new accounts and plan a few investments. Seems like that should take two weeks tops.

Skeptical I'm certain in most instances it wouldn't take all that much time

Everyone is different,  everyone has a different tax bracket.  If you were to win that much money wouldn't you want to focus on a plan and other things.

Maybe they have annuities or maybe something in the family.  You don't know.

Good job on this winners part.  If they do what the New Jersey family did then they will have a huge fortune.

"Philanthropic plans" may have taken more time than other plans. Finding honest and trustworthy lawyers and Certified Financial Planners could take more time

Congratulations and thanks for the suspense. I enjoy a little drama once in awhile.

This is what all of us dream and hope for. Being a single winner with a sizable jackpot. I do know that some LP Members will share with friends and family.

Congrats to the lucky NH winner.

I'm not greedy and will settle for the Powerball jackpot tonight. ( or even half...WinkHMW)

The California couple that won 1/3 share in the $1.6 bil Powerball jackpot back in January took 6 months to come forward. This winner is coming forward in about five weeks.

                      What's the big deal???

Everyone says what others should do. Let's see what you do if you win. To each their own.

Congratulations to the winner of this jackpot winner. I hope the winner steps forward and takes the lump sum.

I hope that one $2 ticket is the only one that matches all 5 numbers plus the Powerball to win the largest Powerball Jackpot in United States history of over $2 Billion Dollars!

They are trying to form a trust to claim the prize in order to remain anonymous.

Smart lottery winners form trust to claim their winnings.  They send an attorney to the lottery headquarters to claim the prize in trust, so that ONLY the name of the trust is revealed.  And they tell NO ONE, especially relatives.

If you ever win a lottery and you are single, the only person you should ever marry is someone who was truly in love with you BEFORE you won the jackpot!

It is past 1:30pm est in New Hampshire. Where are the winners? I getting impatient.

The media availability could be anti-climatic if the lawyers are the only ones there.
