After the Big WinAfter the Big Win: Lottery-winning farmer shares potatoes with people in coronavirus isolationRating:

A woman who used her lottery winnings to move to a farm in England supplied free potatoes to people in self-isolation due to COVID-19.

Susan Herdman, 51, moved to the farm after winning the United Kingdom National Lottery in 2010 and made a post in a local Facebook group offering to share her potatoes after learning of people stockpiling food and supplies due to the global coronavirus outbreak.

Herdman delivered potatoes to isolating families and a home for disabled children in addition to placing a large bag of potatoes in North Yorkshire for people to pick up.

"I delivered all day Saturday and all day Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. I have backache, leg ache, had to pick them all by hand," she said. "I was inundated with hundreds of messages from people saying, 'in a world so dark and selfish, you have made us smile.'"

Herdman said she wanted to show the generosity of farmers as stores have faced empty shelves amid the pandemic.

"To me, it's not a big thing, we're just giving away potatoes," she said. "I don't understand selfish people, I've been a giver all my life. Hopefully, it proves that farmers aren't that tight."

North Yorkshire County Council member for the town of Boroughbridge, Robert Windass praised Herdman for her work.

"It is a fantastic and generous thing to do in these very uncertain times," he said. "This helps show there is plenty of food to go around."

God Bless you for your generosity. That was a mighty good thing you did. There's still kind people in this world and you are one of them. Thanks again.

Kudos to Susan. May not seem a big deal over here, but " Fish & Chips* Potatoes" are a major deal over there. It's a Staple of British food, in fact it originated there. One could go out on a date & buy your significant other F&C, served on a piece of newspaper - l am told.
On a side note: l think Roger Sayer is the Best Pipe Organist in the world. Just watch the " Docking scene on Interstellar. Masterpiece- * Cooper, this is no time for caution.

Saw where almost every adult in the US is getting a check for $1200 and that's no "small potatoes".

Jolly good show Susan Herdman!  Most lottery winners are generous.

When will COVID-19 be finished?  A vaccine may protect all of us.

Forgive me Stack, but l am a strong believer in " There is no such thing as a free lunch." The govt, any Govt does not " give" out money. We not talking vaccines or handing out sandwiches here pal. They going to want that money back. If memory serves me correct, GW Bush after taking office  " gave" the American public money as well from the surplus he inherited from Bubba.

Come tax time they wanted it back or at least they came after mine, so " proceed with caution."

I heard the cutoff for these checks may be earnings under $ 75000 per year so that leaves out a lot of people living in expensive areas.

Je vous salue, Marie, pleine de grace.  We will rebuild!

Married couples making over $200 grand won't get a check and won't get their full employment either. Let's hope the people getting their checks won't all go out spend them at the same time.

Just two weeks ago there was 924 infected in the US and today there are 923 deaths. Probably be years before they tell us (or know) how it spreads so quickly.

And just two days later we have 104,654 people infected with 1723 deaths. Probably a bad idea to attend church services, Easter egg hunt, or do any thing where a crowd has gathered. Hate to say it, but it looks like it's going to get much worse too. Heard a doctor say "it might last for five months like it did in China".

Stay home, work on your systems, post on LP, watch TV, read a book, but stay put. And if you must go out, wash your hands, take a hand sanitizer with you, and wash your hands when you get back home.
