15-year player to remain loyal to his job and his love for the lottery

AJAX, Ontario — A longtime lottery fan will support his wife's dream of opening a daycare after a $1 million (US$733,850) Lotto Max win made it a tangible possibility.

A Canadian man also plans on remaining loyal to his job after winning a $1 million lottery prize in a Lotto Max drawing.

Sivakangar "Siv" Shanmuganathan of Ajax, Ontario has been playing the lottery for 15 years, and now he has a win under his belt to brag about.

He decided to purchase a Lotto Max ticket at the Shell gas station on Salem Road in Ajax for the Dec. 23, 2025 drawing.

"I checked my ticket at the gas station, and the screen said, 'Big Winner,'" the 51-year-old told Ontario Lottery officials while collecting his prize in Toronto. "I was so happy!"

Shanmuganathan had matched all seven numbers in a Maxmillions draw to win the $1 million prize, and he was eager to spread the positive energy. He treated all his coworkers to lunch, although he didn't tell them why at first.

"I haven't told them about the win yet — just my manager," the automotive technician explained.

Now that he has his check in-hand, he plans on paying some bills and saving up for the future.

"I'll keep my job," he added with a smile. "I've been there for over 20 years, and I love it."

When all is said and done, Shanmuganathan said he wants to help others in need. Importantly, the winnings will help him support his wife in her endeavor to open her own daycare.

The winning numbers in the Dec. 23, 2025 Lotto Max drawing were 3, 28, 37, 38, 39, 41, and 43.

The Lotto Max jackpot currently stands at $50 million (US$36.7 million) for the next drawing on Friday, Feb. 13. Lotto Max drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
