Father's Day present goes down as one for the history books

CASEVILLE, Mich. — A Michigan family not only gifted a father a winning lottery ticket worth $8 million, but they gave him the distinction of setting a new lottery record as well.
A group of lottery winners just set a new record for the largest instant lottery prize ever won in Michigan, coming in at a whopping $8 million.
The family members, who claimed the prize jointly as a lottery club, said the ticket was intended to be a present for their dad on Father's Day since they like taking advantage of holidays as a reason to buy tickets.
"Our family often buys lottery tickets for holidays and special occasions, so my brother and I bought our dad an '$8,000,000 Payout' ticket for Father's Day," one of the anonymous winners told the Michigan Lottery. "Our dad scratched the ticket and then handed it to us to check when he saw he'd won $8 million. We looked it over, and then I scanned it to confirm what we were seeing. It was unbelievable when we found out it really was an $8 million winner!"
One of the group members purchased the $50 "$8,000,000 Payout" scratch-off ticket at Caseville One Stop Shop on Port Austin Road in Caseville. All three family members, coining themselves the "Lucky Dogz," visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently to claim their prize, the Lottery said.
"We talked it over and decided to split the prize equally among the three of us," one of the winners explained.
They chose to receive their prize as a one-time lump sum prize of $5.5 million versus annuity payments for the full amount.
The Lucky Dogz plan on putting the winnings into savings.
According to the Lottery, the $50 "8,000,000 Payout" instant game has awarded more than $79 million to players since it launched in March, with more than $234 million in prizes remaining.
With the Lucky Dogz being the first to claim the largest instant prize in Michigan history, there are two out of three top prizes of $8 million left to win in the game. There are also 63 out of 81 second-tier prizes of $10,000 and 1,525 out of 1,953 third-tier prizes of $2,000 remaining.
The overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.17.

The previous record was on a $10 Cash For Life ticket which was about $5,535,528. This is a $50 ticket and the prize is about $5,548,336.
If I recall correctly the record for any state is about $21,000,000 for scratchers.
