Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
That is an interesting observation.
PB shows a lower than usual increase for a billion dollar jackpot, but, All Of A Sudden, MM magically has a $25 M change instead of its regularly scheduled minimum.
Anyone with more than one brain cell can entertain or guess the funny-money schemes going on.
Let the splain-it-a-way folks chew on that one.
We're sure to get a good response.

Let's see if PB can squeeze out another billion dollar jackpot before the holidays.
As long as nobody wins, which is very likely, it will definitely reach a billion before the holidays unless you're counting minor and obscure holidays such as Christmas card day or National llama day, which are both next Tuesday (really).
If the current estimates are right and tonight and Monday are at 820 and 975 the probability of rollovers are .892 and .919, so the chance of a big jackpot next Wednesd

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
I suspected that although people are upset about the price increase for Mega Millions tickets, if the jackpot reaches $1 Billion, almost every lottery player will buy at least one MM ticket.
One thing that's absolutely certain is that every one of the people who said they'll never play at $5 per ticket is a lottery player, and lottery players play lotteries. Sales are starting to grow and it's probably not because of the people who aren't really lottery players but buy the rare ticket when

Oh look another rollover for the Measly Millions and a $25M increase to the annuity.
Looking at the MM jackpot history that had 31 rollovers and is in the top 25 jackpots of all time:
April 21, 2023 - Aug. 8, 2023, $1.602 Billion/783.3M Cash - 31 rollovers Jackpot won
Current Run:
July 1, 2025 - Present day, $ 625M/$288.8M Cash - 31 rollovers Jackpot pending
Not bad MUSL, you are only about $1Billion short ........ Actions have consequences

Mega Millions and Powerball
I dont think they care about a bunch of pissed off boomers putting their money elsewhere.
There is no elsewhere for players to put their money, and I think they think the whiners are idiots who don't understand what's happening. PB and MM are managed separately, but they both funnel money from lottery players to state treasuries and aren't competing against each other. It's like thinking the people selling Coke are upset about people not buying Coke because they prefer to spend their money

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I think they're underestimating the sales tonight and they're going to be closer to matching saturdays sales of 230
It looks like you nailed it after all, and for the first time in a long time sales for a Monday weren't significantly smaller than for the previous Saturday. The final jackpot is reported as $1.201 billion, which is very close to $230 million in sales.
Not that it wasn't already obvious that 1.3 billion was conservative for Wednesday, but since we're now starting about $10

At least Measly Millions made some progress with an increase of $25M this time.
OLD: Looking at the $2 MM run from 6/07/24 - 9/10/24 with only a starting jackpot of $20 Million , the jackpot after 18 draws was already at $405 Million . It took 27 draws to reach the $800M winning jackpot.
Looking at the last $2 MM Billion dollar jackpot run from 9/13 - 12/27/24 starting jackpot of $20 Million, the jackpot after 18 draws was at $387 Million . At 27 draws it was $760M. It took 30 draws to

mathematics of re-playing small wins
I did my analysis on scratch-off tickets because most of the prize money goes towards lower prizes. With jackpot accumulation draw games such as Powerball, not much goes to lower prizes.
To summarize my first post, for the $5 Colorado scratch-off $100,000 Super Bonus, the average number of tickets played is 2.5x or 3x your original bankroll, depending on whether your stop point is $500 or $1,000. Not surprisingly, the improved odds of winning a large prize exactly correlate with the average

It looks as if the $5.00 MM ticket is doing poorly.
While there are games that cost more than $5..... $10 scratchers, $20 scratchers, $50 scratchers, $20 raffle tickets, etc., the difference is that in those games, you have a vastly higher chance of winning a large amount of money.
The problem with the new $5 MM is that they didn't change much of anything. It includes the multiplier for lower prizes (instead of giving you a choice to pay the extra $1). They included a 10X possibility but re-arranged the other multiplier odds to give you preci
