I can remember as a kid growing up in the early 1960's when my parents bought a NY Lottery ticket at a supermarket. Using a ballpoint pen, they had to fill out a paper slip at the cash register and got a carbon copy of it back from the person running the register. I stopped playing the Mega Millions after the price of tickets increased to $5. I play the Powerball every drawing, because I predict that Powerball will eventually raise the price of tickets to $5 to compete with Mega Millions. Lets face it, you know Mega Millions is now increasing their revenue with the jackpot at $800 million, because most people will buy at least one ticket even if the price is at $5.

Good point! I never looked at it that way. For $30, I could play $5 on 6 draws when MM is $700 million and grows to over $2 Billion. The problem I have is that it's just 1 ticket (1 Line) that I get for $5 each time. But for $30, I could play 1 PB ticket for 15 drawings. Also for Powerball, I could get 15 tickets on that drawing for that same $30.00 versus only 6 tickets for Mega Millions. Honestly, I wish the tickets were still just $1. I bought a bunch of Powerball tickets for the last drawing when the annuity jackpot was $2 billion. I normally don't play that game because the odds of winning are approximately zero. For the same price, I can get far better odds of winning less money but still life changing money. I was willing to try it because it would be fun to spend $600 million in today's money after tax. Interesting! But when this happens with a computerized draw, we have people screaming that the state needs to go back to ball drawings because they must be cheating with the RNG. Humans are very good at spotting patterns. It takes far more data (or physical evidence) to imply an unfair drawing.

I haven't touched Mega Millions since the price hike in April. I used to be a consistent 1 ticket per drawing player prior to that. It's sort of become irrelevant from my perspective. It started as $1 and a dream. Then it became $2 and a distant hope. Now it's $5 and a hard pass. Good luck to everyone with the upcoming drawings. Seems like a few of these jackpots have been rolling over for a while. Would be nice if someone finally won them.
