Why are lump sum jackpot payouts shrinking?
Hi, Any insights why Powerball and Mega Game cash payout amounts keep getting smaller as a percentage of the total jackpot? 12-18 months ago the lump-sum payout percentage was approx 57% of the total jackpot, but it has been gradually shrinking over time. After staying around 53-52% for many months, it's recently dropped to 50%, and in the last few drawings is now 48%. I would think with interest rates going up the annuity factor would be larger, not smaller. Any insights here would be

Much Would You Invest?
I discarded my vote. After how long I have been playing I have seen stories on here about people winning two or three times so I can see why you did this poll. As for me, however, I am now playing for more than 100k because I have kicked in enough in the 5 decades I have been playing. I am in on tonights Michigan pot for about 400k. If I actually won I would play for Two more years (depending on the jackpot size) because all the stories I have read about Michigan players winning two or three

Not worth joining a pool. Its $61 million IF the winner opts for the annuity. Otherwise it is $36.9 million, before taxes. Take a third right off the top for taxes. That leaves a bit over $24.6 million to split between the pool. So 10 pool players would net about $2.46 million each with more taxes due at the end of the year. Big difference between expecting $61 million, or $36.9 million and receiving 2.4 million. But that's the reality. G

The ever increasingly inflated jackpot prizes for MM and PB
The gulf between the cash and annuity options has become larger because inflation has prompted a rise in interest rates, which in turn results in potentially larger investment gains. With annuities, the jackpot cash is essentially invested and then paid out to winners over three decades. https://www.bigcountryhomepage.com/news/if-you-win-1-2b-powerball-perhaps-consider-not-taking-cash/ Another article worth a read.... https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/why-the-2-04-billion

Biggest reason for Lottery Winners going broke soon? :/
I just learned on Bloomberg that 70% of lottery winners spend or lose all the money within 5 years. Even $500 million jackpot winners. So smart move for most people is to take annuity option. You are guaranteed to remain rich for 30 years. Naturally I would still take the cash option but I'm a hedge fund manager who lives my life via spreadsheets. The only thing I buy if I win is a 2023 Toyota Prius prime. 1% goes to charity and family and friends and 99% minus a Prius go

Biggest reason for Lottery Winners going broke soon? :/
LF...... For the PB and the MM Lottery winnings of $600.01 and over are subject to Federal Withholding tax. For winnings of $600.01, up to and including $5,000, you will be issued a W-2G form to report your winnings on your federal income tax form. For winnings of $5,000.01 and over, your state's Department of Revenue removes the 24% federal withholding before you receive your winnings check (or, if it is an annuity, from each winnings check). You then receive a W-2G form with each check to

I will change the way I buy Cash4life tickets.
First and foremost congratulations on the thought that one could hit second tier prize on two consecutive days. Not that it can't happen, but good Lord that would be awesome luck. Having said that, I don't know if they can pay a multi draw win on the same ticket as different options. Maybe it's possible. However what I would do is play the 3 sets of multi draws (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) on 3 separate tickets. Example . Ticket 1 - 1-2-3-4-5 (6) - multi draw Friday, Saturday an

A bit of a stretch, how? Your post reads.... Back to the topic of this thread. The Texas Lotto jackpot is now $61 million. Every week it becomes a better and better option for a pool of players to buy enough tickets to win it. Not only do you poi nt directly at the, Texas Lotto jackpot is now $61 million , you also advocate that it is, a better and better option for a pool of players. So Joe is right. No stretch a nd no technicality. You said a pool of players shou

There doesn't seem to be a huge frenzy for the 1.1 Billion Megamillions prize. :/
It's kind of as if the infamous Powerball delay put a damper on what should have been a huge frenzy The decline in interest isn't consistent, but it's been going on for years. Here are the results for all 6 runs that have reached the billion dollar mark, starting at the point they were closest to $500 (the zeros are just place holders to keep the table neat). current 11/7/22 7/29/22 1/22/21 10/23/18 1/13/16 $0 $2,040 $0 $0 $0 $0 $0 $1,600 $0 $0 $0 $0 $0 $1,200 $0 $0 $0 $0
