the future of mega millions and powerball
Why should Powerball go higher than Mega Millions? Mega Millions currently has a population of 60 million more than Powerball (52 million after North Carolina joins), and even if Powerball was somehow able to grab Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, Nevada, Mississippi, Hawaii, Utah, Wyoming, and Puerto Rico (assuming the last nine jurisdictions ever get a lottery), under today's population, Mega Millions would still outnumber Powerball by 14 million people.

powerball and mega million matrix changes
Mega Millions will never get hit regularly as long as they have the moratorium on new states. However, if Alaska, Hawaii, Alabama, Mississippi, Utah, Nevada, Arkansas, and Wyoming ever get lotteries, they'd probably let a few more states in! I'm guessing 2009 for Powerball.

I Won The Lottery This Year For Over 25 M
That doesn't sound at all like yeagerj's win. Where ever yeagerj won, if the win happened, likely it wasn't if Florida. Must have been fairly recent for the first annuity payment check to be still outstanding.Maybe yeagerj and JPorter will find themselves drinking in the same bar in Joeberg. They can compare the weather in Wyoming to the weather in Florida while they wait for Mr. Thambo to show up with the checks.Jack

OK's multi-state game
Quote: Originally posted by Todd on February 17, 2005 Mega Millions made it clear last year that they would only add one more major state, and then no more. So it's clear that it will be Powerball. And Oklahoma is a major state with it's two major cities (OKC and Tulsa). So don't say they could join MM because they're not a major state, because OK is a major state. But Wyoming is not a major state (in fact the least populated in America), so if they get a lottery, MM might let them in.

Powerball's Future.
one problem is that more and more states are joining, and that adds more players, which makes it more likely that the jackpot will be hit each drawing. think about what happens once states like wyoming, alaska, oklahoma, and north carolina get lotteries. they are going to want powerball.

location, location, location?
In theory you may be right, in reality you are wrong, I discussed this a week ago. A year or two ago, there were 2 winners from Wyoming (or Idaho ?), and no winners in Pennsylvania. In theory Pennsylvania should have more winners because the population of PA is like 13 million - Philly alone is like 5 million - but the population of Wyoming (?) is like 1.8 million, so it should stand to reason more tickets are sold in PA than WY - by a large margin. By the same token, if you live i

Why is it that NY, CA and some other states are the premier states have the most winners
Most don't come from either CA or NY, but many more come from those two states than from, say, Wyoming or South Dakota. CA and NY have a combined population of about 59 million. The US has a total population of about 331 million. So about 17.8% of all US residents live in either CA or NY. If you assume lottery playing habits are uniform across the country, you can then very roughly estimate that about 17.8% of winners will be from those two states.
