NJ Lottery officials still investigating cause of massive outage
The exact cause and circumstances of a five-day outage that blocked nearly half of New Jersey's lottery retailers from selling printed tickets like Pick 3 and Mega Millions earlier this month are still a mystery, but a few determinations are unanimous. The blackout, although anomalous, was unacceptable, may have been detected sooner and should have been handled better, state officials and executives from Northstar New Jersey, the group responsible for the lottery's sales and marketing, said a

D.C. Lottery thefts tied to lax security processes
D.C. officials learned last year that lax enforcement of security procedures made it possible for a handful of contract employees to steal tens of thousands of dollars in lottery tickets and prize money, according to records released this week in response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed with the District of Columbia Lottery Charitable Games Control Board. An investigation conducted by Battelle Memorial Institute in August 2006 determined the ticket thefts were most likely com

Online play taking off: Virginia Lottery hits milestone $2 billion awarded
We are better off investing the money in the stock market with zero commission. New York Lottery has fallen behind, when it comes to technology. Online play is the future.

Atlantic Lottery Corporation cuts its workforce by nearly a tenth
My Surgeon said he doesn't even use laser guided OR tools; he uses good old 'feel' technology. Went to a seminar years later @ Cleveland Clinic where he works/had my surgery and he said that then. Some kids @ work had the same disease and I'd tell parents that though there is no cure, you feel better, much better after surgery. One in 500 have it and most don't know it.

Atlantic Lottery Corporation cuts its workforce by nearly a tenth
This behavior is reminiscent of the Toll Takers for the bridges in the Bay Area. Management often decides to remove the human factor by displacing these hard workers with machines technology. They already have machines doing knee surgery, just you wait till they decide to have machines do brain open heart surgery while the doctor is having a sandwich catching up on yesterday's soap opera. Blame it on something, great way to cover your A**

Declining lottery sales prompt more Powerball jackpot changes
I agree with the needed shift to online ticket purchasing options. Unfortunately the state assembly here has a Puritanical bent and will be hard pressed to sanction online gambling . They won't even allow for entering losing tickets online for the second chance drawing. Instead you have to buy postage stamps, fill out the back of the ticket(s) then fill out the envelope(s) and then find a mailbox to drop it all in because heaven forfend we embrace the heathenistic 20th century technology called

What happens when Michigan lottery retailers try to game the system
Perhaps the 3D barcode took care of this problem. Not sure wish state it was but they'd scratch a tiny line across, scan the ticket and losers would go back in the mix. With 3D technology that way of cheating out the window! Thanks for clarifying it.

World Lottery Association president urges veto of warning labels
Out of curiosity I found an old CA draw game ticket and measured. Ticket is 3 1/4 inches wide and the Play Responsibly strip going down the side is 3/8 inches wide. It takes up 11.5% of the ticket, which is surprising to me because it seems like a lot less just eyeballing it. In the event the governor signs the bill, I think the art department of International Game Technology (the company that prints FL's scratch-offs) will figure it out.

Florida Lottery will go offline for systems upgrade on April 15
Florida Lottery officials say they don't anticipate problems as a multimillion-dollar upgrade of a vending system goes into place this month. But rather than press their luck, players are urged to buy earlier than normal as the new system is expected to require the main office to go offline for several hours April 15. The vast majority of the upgrade will occur overnight on the 15th, causing minimal inconvenience, lottery spokeswoman Keri Nucatola said. Still, we are encouraging our frequ
