$1.6 BILLION: Powerball jackpot sets all-time record as ticket sales surge across the USA
With the interest rate continually rising it diminishes the cash value considerably. It is now 48% of the annuity, in early 2021 another major jackpot was won with a cash value was 76% of the annuity had the annuity jackpot been 2 Billion the cash value would be well above 1.5 Billion instead of under 1 billion

$1.6 BILLION: Powerball jackpot sets all-time record as ticket sales surge across the USA
The big question is if I should take the annuity or the cash when I win this one! Normally I would say take the cash, but with the interest rates what they are, the annuity is tempting. Plus, with the annuity payments being so large, I would not have to really worry about investing and could just sit back and live the rest of my life with no worries or stress about investing. Though having $400 million plus after taxes is pretty tempting too!

$910 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot making another historic run
let me know what your thoughts are after reading the below and the article . I think that getting tax advice for free can be risky. While it's also free, this comes from the state of NJ , which is the state your source thinks might not continue to tax a winner that moves out of state. If you don't want to read it all, How Residents and Nonresidents Are Taxed at the bottom of page 6 says For nonresidents, New Jersey Income Tax liability is based on the percentage of their total income that c

$1.25 BILLION: Mega Millions jackpot set to deliver unimaginable wealth
Annuity up $100 million, cash up $34.2 million, cash:annuity ratio down to a bit under 49%. If it rolls (about 65% chance) the advertised jackpot will start at 1.55 billion if interest rates don't change again. Cash will be $659.5 million, based on the sales estimate. No telling if sales will be high enough, but if they are there's perhaps a 30% chance of two rolls and MM reclaiming the annuity jackpot record that PB has had since the first jackpot over $1 billion in 2016. If sales are a bit

One Illinois lottery ticket wins $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
I agree on questioning why anyone would take the annuity (you can always shop around after getting the cash).. During the height of the low interest rates (a year or so ago) the cash to jackpot rate hit around 83% (It is currently around 58.38%.) That $780.5 million would have only been worth (bought an annuity expected to pay out) $940,361,445.90. Compare that to the $1.337b it could buy today, and someone taking the same cash value annuity a year or so ago would lose ~$396m over the
