$1.55 BILLION: Biggest Mega Millions jackpot ever to be drawn Tuesday
The way the annuity is set up I don't see why many people older than 56 would take it. They really should offer a choice of annuities with 20, 25 and maybe 30 year flat payments along with the one they offer now. I don't see who, in their right mind, over 60 would want an increasing annuity. The annuity payment structure right now on both PB and MM is very ageist!

Major claim deadline approaching for Illinois lottery winner of $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
My feelings about lump sum or annuity: if you're under 40, you should take the annuity and if you're over 40 take the lump sum. If you take the annuity and die before the last payment, your estate would be responsible for the inheritance tax on the full amount remaining.

$1.23 BILLION: Powerball jackpot juggernaut keeps rolling
It's very common, and in fact rarely is the cash and annuity adjusted proportionally. Many times the cash value changes but the annuity is not adjusted. Keep in mind they are both estimates, and we are strictly speaking here about numbers being adjusted prior to the drawing.

One ticket sold in Maine wins $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot
The annuity ranking is pointless. There are ways to manipulate the annuity rating to anything you want but it is way harder to manipulate the cold hard cash value. (near the end, on this jackpot, the cash value went up but they didn't change the annuity amount on this roll) There is that old joke about the lottery with the trillion dollar jackpot paid out as a dime a year for ten trillion years if you are missing the point. Besides the annuity values have a steady percentage increas

$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
I believe it was in the article the other day. It said something about the cash option is much lower now than before because of inflation being so bad. The cash option is cash-on-hand. At this point it does look so much better to take the annuity. Then again, will the state still be solvent enough to have the annuity money 30 years down the line

$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
Why is the cash amount so much less then only a few months ago. In July when the annuity prize was 830 million the cash prize was 488 million. now it is only 383 million for 800 million annuity. I would like to know why? I know it is the powerball vs the mega million but if you go back into the powerball history then you would see the same trend. Why almost 100 million difference?

One Illinois lottery ticket wins $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
A annuity does protect you from greedy family members who didn't like you before, wanting a money grab, and strangers wanting a handout for their utilities, and bills because their unemployed. You invest the annuity payment, and it adds to the dividends as income you receive monthly, averaging $14,000.00 to $17,500.00 per month.

One ticket sold in Maine wins $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot
They are now the richest and most taxed individual in the state of Maine. No telling whether they'll want it a for themselves or give a lot to charity, but after taxes they could end up with a bit over $400 million. Their tax bill would be higher but they'd still be about $100 million poorer than Stephen King. I didn't bother asking Google, but I think that King is the richest resident of Maine. could he/she get away from paying Maine taxes by simply moving to New Hampshire before claim
