Does Mathematical Innumeracy foster superstitions and support the belief in them?
RL-RANDOMLOGIC, You said, While I agree with the content I think that the reason that most don't seek to improve their math and science skills stems from a lack of interest in those fields as a form of employment. I disagree. And I don't think you really believe this statement yourself. Your post is a [not so well] veiled attempt to portray mathematicians as no more than eccentric geeks who's opinions should be disregarded. Of course, I could be wrong here, and maybe you completely missed

OpenOffice Calc & iWorks Numbers
Wow +100 views 0 replies. Oh well ... I did some digging and according to the review of Numbers over at macworld, my needs would be esoteric . No macro support in Numbers = total deal breaker. There aren't many books on OO yet, so good may depend on how typical the needs of the user are. I'm beginning to suspect I might not want to make the jump just yet. Currently, the update links for OO are full download links. All-or-None there, but as Calc doesn't yet have the same h

The Pick 3 Benford Matrix
Thoth, Tell me what do you think the significance may be from this test. I just recorded a group of 1,000 recent draws in TX with how many had a sum of 10-19, using the benford group first digit #1, the result was the infamous 666 times. Hmmmm! Also, I understand I am applying a slightly different perspective for review. However, if I am understanding correctly with your application, you are changing the combos every draw accordingly to various #1 digit skip groups? Also, more food fo

Does Mathematical Innumeracy foster superstitions and support the belief in them?
Innumeracy: To combat [innumeracy] John Allen Paulos has concocted the perfectvaccine: this book, which is in many ways better than an entire high school math eductation! Our society would be unimaginably different if the average person truly understood the ideas in this marvelous and important book. It is probably hopelessly optimistic to dream this way, but I hope that Innumeracy might help launch a revolution in math education that would do for innumeracy what Sabin and

Mathematics and the Lottery
Hello. I a also voted #2 You got the point - ...more dynamic . 1O years ago I have designed a predictive algorithm that currently is following the pan-european lottery EUROMILLIONS. The last algorithm`s review occurred 8 months ago and it beats the REFERENCE or (Theoretical average) by +9% in Numbers and +3% in Lucky stars. I started to follow Megamillions 1 month ago. The readings are only in number of 7. So, the figures are not reliable yet but I believe the performance wi

There is no Math when it come to winning.
True! Lets take pick3 for an example. You can take any other game, but for this example's sake it is easier math. There are 3 X 10 digits, from 0 through 9 for each position. There are 3 digits drawn each draw. It is easy math to calculate how many times a digit will show up after 10 draws in each position. The answer is: each digit will appear once, for each position. This ofcourse is theory. In reality it wont be like that. At least, not after 10 draws. I'll use North Caro

Math Geniuses, Help!! "SLAG" Odd/Even Analysis - Chart I
Allen, to attempt an answer the questions I had to go back to review page 35 as to be sure that what I was saying was true to what she has written without putting words in her mouth... Now, even though there are specific thresholds mentioned, I'd be in error to say that she offers any hard and fast rules, set in stone. Many times she wisely uses the words consider in explaining her thoughts on play methodology. (I say wisely since its evident that she was, in the least, smart enough to know s

Can math and logic improve chances of winning a jackpot?
Jimmy4164, Here are the CliffNotes for your review: What I clearly know and understand better than you is you can NOT BEAT the odds by looking back at past draws for guidance during your selection process. - Jimmy4164 3July 2:14PM What you are obviously compelled to discredit is the fact that PAST DRAWS HAVE NO EFFECT ON PRESENT OR FUTURE DRAWS! - Jimmy4164 4July 9:36AM How about posting your proof that past draws have no effect on present or future draws? - garyo1954 Yesterda

Backtesting and Simulating Lottery Systems
Jimboo-boo!!!!!!! Your pink tutu goes with the clown shoes nicely but your Echappe needs much work. The good news is once you get your foot out of your mouth, you will find it easier to stand up. Don't get me wrong, laying on the ground, spinning, while holding your ankle is cool, but feel free to stop while I review. You say you know the results without writing the simulation. Knowing this to be untrue, I asked, Then why not post the results without all the fancy breakdance moves?
