I prefer to use excel as a tool to work with because you have instant visual feedback on backtesting and complex formula manipulation where you need to see each portion of a process broken down.Also, using excel allows easy importing into MSAccess for those things that just can't be done without some SQL power above and beyond the limited query abilities of excel. MSAccess also exports quite cleanly to excel.I would strongly suggest using Excel as your primary storage and manipulation tool, and

Martor. You brought back flashbacks. I use to use Qbasic in high school and loved it. I then went to Visual Basic. It is the same type of code, just more Visual with forms and such. VBA(Visual Basic for Applications) is used in Excel. I think if you know QBasic and the logic of variables, loops and if/then statements, you should be able to incorporate VBA into Excel and really make Excel powerful(which Excel already is without VBA) IGamble. What I do with a macro-enabled Excel sheet is copy-paste the source code of the macro into a txt document and save it in the same folder as the Excel sheet, and save it with the same name as the Excel sheet, but with _macro1, _macro2, etc. appended to the end. That way if the sheets don't save properly with the macro, I still have the code I can insert on the fly. I have not really had this problem since I upgraded to the latest version of Excel, though.
