Top 10 "Reasons" why the Powerball Lottery is a scam...!
Our government is extremely corrupt and the taxes on lottery winnings doesn't even scratch the surface. I don't play pick 3, 4 or scratch offs because I have no interest in the small payouts and winning a few hundred, few thousand, or even a few hundred thousand dollars would not be a life changing event for me. I invest/play the stock market because the odds of making money are so much better and Mr. Market has been really good to me. I spend $1-5 (depending on the jackpot amount) on e

Top 10 "Reasons" why the Powerball Lottery is a scam...!
RJ,time and time again you try to SPIN things without giving a logical explaination ....these kind of tactics don't hold up in a true forum of debate and its akin to a RED HERRING as Ive said before. Why excuse the things the government does simply because youve become CONDITIONED to accept the status quo? I want you to think about that for awhile before you give a quick rebuttal...

Buying Mega Millions And Powerball Online
That was guesser take on your situation. I think if they ever come up with a way to track online lottery tickets sales and winnings so they can be taxed by the states of origin and the federal government then they may make buying them that way legal and you won't have to buy them from the local retailers. Until then you can probably continue to buy foreign lottery tickets online and include those winnings on your tax forms and be legal.

Anyone win the Mega Million?
It's not right for people to be rich. The winner should do the right thing and give it all to the government so we can all split it up. Under force of law if necessary. We should you know, spread the wealth around a little. That would be the fair thing to do, afterall it's not fair that the rest of us didn't win. What kind of fairness do they call that? The prizes should be split up evenly between everybody who buys a ticket and poor people should get larger shares than rich people. Now that

Do you guys think the mega millions and maybe powerball is rigged?
That's an excellent point Floyd. The core problem there is so-called social agencies such as ACORN rounding up people who wouldn't otherwise vote in numbers sufficient to throw an election. Then when the beneficiary of that election funds that agency with taxpayer dollars in an entrenchment effort it exacerbates the problem exponentially. That's why anyone who truly cares about this country has to get involved and act now. An apathetic electorate will soon find a government boot on it's ne

I'm going to be out in California tomorrow. Does anyone think
I should buy some tickets. It looks the the government there is going to collapse and default. Therefore it might be not wise to buy one, since it would be horrible to win and get nothing. There you got it folks. Ronald Reagan's dream, something for nothing becomes nothing for nothing.

POLL: Worldwide Jackpots
I absolutely agree, particularly because Powerball hypes its smaller jackpot by time graduation of the annuity. Mega pays equal installments. The annuities are, I note, invested in government securities which may not be worth a dime in 30 years. With the higher odds, the Powerball jackpot has the lowest expectation value ever.

A comment on the new Powerball Expectation Values.
For the same reason that you wouldn't use the annuity value. The only point of calculating an expectation value is to make the risk to reward an objective quantity. The expectation value is only as realistic as the numbers you use to calculate it, so it has to be based on what you'll actually get and not some imaginary number. For odds of 1 in 195 million the expectation value isn't 1 unless the net is $195 million. Unless perhaps you actually want to share the prize with the government. Of c

How are payments invested?
The Federal Government will probably never default on their loans (bonds and notes) if they run out of money they can just print more (not wise economically but if it happened that is what they would do). This is why the state lotteries will invest annuities into one year US Treasuries. They take the first one and pay it to you when you claim it and then they buy 25 one-year treasuries for the remaining years. After one year passes they pay you one of those and reinvest the other 24. The problem
