Just a comment about gambling and drinking. The two sometimes go hand in hand. Alcoholism is a disease - ask any shrink. AA produces about a 6% (according to the their brochures) cure out of all the sufferers. Gambling may also be a disease but is not covered by insurance. Gambling seems to be an immediate gratification issue along with a lack of impulse control. GA meetings have many members who continue to gamble because they cannot stop. There are - as you may know - many deep obscure issues

Yep, allowselftowin, gambling is gambling. It's the stacking the deck even more that has me unhappy. I think I'm going to have to stick to a strict limit of $20-25 per day. I know it's hard, but I don't feel the PA Lottery is worth more than that right now.

$30 or $50 Instant Tickets... Would you/Do you play them?
NOPE-NOPE-NOPE. Just can't do it. To me that's money that I would add to my gambling fund. Even when my spouse tells me to go for it, I just add the money to the gambling fund.

Soliciting advice
It's difficult to say, DoubleDown, because it really depends on your relationship. If the person has a gambling problem, meaning it is having a devastating effect on his/her life, then counseling is needed. However, an intervention doesn't work unless someone has a desire to stop whatever he/she is addicted to like drinking, drugs or gambling. Sometimes a person will stop for a short time, but a commitment to change is always the key to any bad habit. $100 a day is a lot of money to lose.

Scratch-Off Addiction "Super Users"
You're definitely not alone, Jason. There's many of us here who have control issues. Some people can maintain a budget and stick to it completely. Some always end up going over, and get the compulsive drive to chase. I'm very much like you, and there's been many times where I've spent way more than I should have, including in the $1,000+ mark. For me, it became a necessity to stop playing because I'm expecting a child in a couple of months. I don't want the habit of withdrawing $300+ and los

Am I normal?
Not sure if this will help you, but I will give a suggestion. I'm a compulsive gambler, I can spend a ton of money on BlackJack, Poker, or Scratch Tickets on a whim. The way I can control myself is gamble with a friend or family member. I know this sounds weird, but it usually keeps me in line and not wanting to do stupid things in front of them. For example, I won't make $50 bets at the Blackjack table, I won't go on tilt in Poker and put $100 in a real hand on top pair, and most importantly, i
