Well I can now officially say I am done.. Just found out I don't have enough to itemize other than gambling winnings. Which means I owe taxes on all my winnings this year even though I have the losses. Nail in the coffin in the reasons it isn't worth it. Good luck all.. Hope one of you guys hit the big one.

My Florida Nightmare
I'm sorry to hear about your losses. If you really feel that you cannot control the impulse to buy tickets, you should consider calling the Florida Gambling Hotline: 888-ADMIT-IT. (236-4848). We all splurge at times, but it can be a problem if it's not under control. I wish you the best.

New York instant scratch off tickets - new tickets with less odds to win
Yeah, my gambling hobby will gravitate to pick 3 and pick 4 exclusively. Might just start tossing $20 on a front/rear pair. Payout will be $1000 and the odds will only be 1:100 to win it.

Tickets were just as bad. This will be my last post for awhile. Got my gambling out of my system and time to focus on other things. I will check back occasionally to see how everyone is doing. Good luck all...

Florida Scratch Offs - Post Pictures if posible
They do, I grab all the loser scratchers from the trash next to the lotto machine at publix and save em in a huge manila envelope and claim them as gambling losses.

Florida Scratch Offs - Post Pictures if posible
I gave up on the new game, and haven't been playing for about a week now. Of all the tickets I have purchased on the new game, I have won $500 once, $100 once, and several $25-$30 prizes. The game has been out at least a month, and on any other game we would be seeing nice wins by now. I won't call it a rip-off because in essence, we are gambling, and ultimately the game is doing what it was designed to do, make money. Best of luck to everyone!

This is something I've debated with my mother for a long time, as she has been a tax preparer for almost 20 years now. I've often wondered why she told me I couldn't write off losing lottery tickets.... and the answer is below! https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/Taxes-101/Can-You-Claim-Gambling-Losses-on-Your-Taxes-/INF14370.html Basically you need to be able to itemize on a schedule A, and have more of a value there then the standard deduction of a minim

CA Lottery - California Love - CA Lottery Scratchers
That's a good point in your third graph; the Lottery--and especially California Lottery Scratchers--should be viewed with the expectation that you're going to lose your money. So many times you see people losing hundreds of dollars on these tickets and they're lucky to get back half. I'm on an indefinite hiatus from the Lottery (at least until November) and my only means of gambling is reduced to a once a month casino visit.

CA Lottery - California Love - CA Lottery Scratchers
You know, I have to agree with you on the CA redesign. I wonder what they were thinking. People going to the site to get information about the games (why else would they be going there?) are going to have some trouble finding anything. All that corporate and anti-gambling info taking center stage seems oddly out of place. What on Earth are the lotteries thinking these days??
