$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
I believe it was in the article the other day. It said something about the cash option is much lower now than before because of inflation being so bad. The cash option is cash-on-hand. At this point it does look so much better to take the annuity. Then again, will the state still be solvent enough to have the annuity money 30 years down the line

$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
Why is the cash amount so much less then only a few months ago. In July when the annuity prize was 830 million the cash prize was 488 million. now it is only 383 million for 800 million annuity. I would like to know why? I know it is the powerball vs the mega million but if you go back into the powerball history then you would see the same trend. Why almost 100 million difference?

One Illinois lottery ticket wins $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
A annuity does protect you from greedy family members who didn't like you before, wanting a money grab, and strangers wanting a handout for their utilities, and bills because their unemployed. You invest the annuity payment, and it adds to the dividends as income you receive monthly, averaging $14,000.00 to $17,500.00 per month.

Why isn't there a choice to split the Lump sum and the Annuity?
The way your state lottery invests money to pay out annuities should be public info. So first, file a public records request to find out how they invest the money. Next, when you win, ask for the lump sum and then invest half of it the way the lottery does. Pay yourself an annuity out of the interest. Boom, now you got an annuity and a lump sum.

One ticket sold in Maine wins $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot
They are now the richest and most taxed individual in the state of Maine. No telling whether they'll want it a for themselves or give a lot to charity, but after taxes they could end up with a bit over $400 million. Their tax bill would be higher but they'd still be about $100 million poorer than Stephen King. I didn't bother asking Google, but I think that King is the richest resident of Maine. could he/she get away from paying Maine taxes by simply moving to New Hampshire before claim

CA SuperLotto slow-build 6 months
I finally managed to find the link to the lottery regs and financial reports, it's under about us. The latest version of the regs state The Cash Option for the Jackpot Prize is set prior to the Draw and is based on the estimated cost to fully fund the advertised annuity prize. They are stating that the lump sum amount is not based on sales, which we all knew because the jackpot annuity increases by exactly $1 million every drawing regardless of sales. As the interest rates fluctuate, t

CA SuperLotto slow-build 6 months
CA SuperLotto Plus is idiotic. By regulation, the advertised annuity value has to increase by exactly 1 million dollars with every rollover, and the cash value is calculated from that number, regardless of sales . It works the opposite of every other annuitized jackpot lottery where sales dictate the cash value and the cash value dictates the annuity. The people who devised SLP's bizarre rollover rules probably thought it was a neat advertising strategy, but didn't realize nobody ever takes the

$1 BILLION: Powerball jackpot hits milestone for 3rd time
It went from $875,000,000 to $900,000,000 The real increase was from an actual annuity of 830 to an advertised annuity of 900, which is 7/8 of the 750 to 830 increase from Wednesday to Saturday. The final tally for Monday was actually 922, which is fairly impressive considering that sales for a Monday drawing have only been bigger than sales for the previous Saturday once. The jackpot should be around $1.6 - $1.9 There is no should. The jackpot is determined by how many tickets are

VIDEO: July's Weekly Roundup in lottery news
It's actually the ninth-largest Powerball jackpot ever This seems to disagree: 21. Mega Millions: $347.6 million cash, Dec. 17, 2013 ($648 million annuity) - California, Georgia 22. Powerball: $341.7 million cash, Jul. 30, 2016 ($487 million annuity) - New Hampshire 23. Powerball: $340.9 million cash, Jul. 10, 2023 ($675 million annuity) - Preliminary estimate, not won yet Despite the bump, it's still smaller than 14 other PB jackpots, although I suspect the final tally will move i

Joining a lottery club?
Not sure why there is so much discussion on annuity versus cash payout. Almost everyone advocates for taking the cash payout. And for a lottery pool, it would be extremely foolish to take the annuity. And yet there is all this discussion about annuity versus cash. This not not even what this thread is about.
